Dry in Manchester now. There are a few showers in the Irish sea but hit and miss.

The band of precipitation currently in Scotland will get here this afternoon/early evening but snow will be reserved for the hilly areas.

Maybe better lack tomorrow night?

Quick burst of wet snow in Whitefield. I think the air is cooler behind the precipitation, not within the main area, so we might have better luck with some showers this afternoon.

A spell of quite dramatic looking snow falling now, big wet flakes, but only sticking to cars/grass, and it will soon melt away.

Surprisingly windy this morning.

A bit of hail and then some snow and sleet. Left for work later than usual and had to cycle through vile sleet and wet snow.

Now it's bright and sunny in Manchester city centre. Schizophrenic weather.

Frustrating that southern Cumbria gets snow at sea level and I don't even get a flake, bound to be my turn soon.

Warnings out for Thursday night and Friday, but there is a definitely stress on 200m+ seeing any accumulation.

The warning to me looks and reads as

they have no idea at this stage what

is going to happen

National forecast totally at odds with

the warning,Stav stating snow could

fall to low levels and could cause

disruption Friday rush hour

The only way they'll know about the where, when and how on Friday is if they get in their time machine, fast forward to Saturday, file a report return to the here and now and put it in their forecast.

A bit of a flop this morning as there was barely a covering except on the highest hills in these parts, the snow-line was around the 240m in elevation and even then it was just a dusting as opposed to the 5-10cm forecasted. There's always Friday to look forward to although i'm somewhat pessimistic about the odds.

Rain is now coming from the northwest with a bit of snow for the hill tops.

Cloud interference, the breeze and showery bits and pieces will prevent a frost tonight.

Pouring down, not a hint of sleet.

What happened today? lol :cc_confused:......... a really poor show, looking at the hills to my east it looked like only ground above 300m saw any accumulation which was vastly higher than the Met Office thought. As someone else said they dislike north westerlys, I do too they are so fickle, I much prefer easterlys on this side of the region like end of Nov 2010 and Jan 2013. Proper cold continental air with very low dew points which really helps with snow fall. The north westerlys are so marginal most of the time. Take today for example the dew was fluctuating between 0 and 2C. Not good enough. Needs to be -1 or even better still lower than that.
