Starting to get breezy here now. To those in the most likely affected areas....hope you've all got everything tied down! I was out earlier weighting stuff down with boulders, so there may not be too many flying objects later on!

Just looked at the wee simple pressure chart on the BBC weather page and there looks like a small warm front joining in with the major cold front of Frank and coiling towards the centre. Is there a chance of a sting jet?

There already is a sting jet in the centre, BBC Weather confirmed it earlier in a forecast.

Still pretty calm here just now, probably increase all at once.

Thank you so much for that information. I had missed it, but I've been trying to understand how sting jets form and felt I was just getting more and more confused. I must have understood something after all :yahoo:

Thankfully the sting jet element I believe is staying over sea and will not affect land ..?? If it was I imagine we would have red warnings from the met office for wind damage impact ..

Yes, the sting jet is well to the west of us. I'm a bit of a storm junkie though so sting jets are very welcome to me...

I have some empathy with that wish too , it's just there comes a point where you worry about what it will do to your property and garden etc ..... Must be getting old !!

Wild here in Northern Ireland.  Winds really picking up.  Highest so far - 71mph in  Magilligan.

And is also picking up on the small low running NE across Ireland, it could certainly pack a punch if it comes off... Is that 150km/h gusts into SW Ireland?

Let's hope the ECM, and more patricularly the ARPEGE are wrong about this secondary low, the presure gradent is extremely tight.

Just watching the news.  Bridge in Tadcaster has collapsed area being evacuated.  My goodness!  Thoughts go to those in the area.

Main issue here will be rain. Sheltered from the southerly winds so they won';t be a factor.

If you take a look at the shipping forecast, there are some hurricane force 12's flying around for some of the shipping

areas.

If Frank had tracked right across the Uk, it really would have felt like a hurricane in that sting jet

We're lucky Frank is staying offshore

I used to live in Tadcaster, well church fenton but i know that bridge well, used to travel over it most days and park up along there. What a real shame, 300 years old.
