In March 2013 it snowed in my location for 3 days and nights without stopping.... it was magical to see snow falling as daylight broke and again as daylight faded into night time... the fire was burning bright and warm the wind was howling and everything was covered in deep deep snow and the drifts were massive... my lamp post never looked so good... night time is best tho... i like to be alone and watch the snow fall silently.... then go mad in it the next day with the kids.. nothing better than a big snowball fight with the kids....

Is Steve Murr around? He needs to an updated snow scale as some the videos in the last one are no longer available:

In the afternoon toward twilight, but only when I am at home. Snow falling at any time I'm driving is anathema.

Overnight into morning.  I remember waking up as a kid during those great Winters of the mid 80's to a steel grey sky, flakes fluttering down to join that thick snow on the ground!  Also, as others have said, temperatures are generally more favorable at night for snowfall.
