Meanwhile, we should try thinking outside of our wee Scottish bubble and lend some sympathy for those in the south east of England ...

Lol, what will the story be tomorrow?

"82yr old OAP left in shock as wheelie bin blows over"

Which reminds me, it's bin collection day around our estate tomorrow, recyclables. I do hope the neighbors decide to move the bins out to the street tomorrow rather than tonight!

Had a really nasty burst of rain go through about 10 minutes ago. Wind so strong (and we're not even started yet)

Snow melt, wind and heavy rain this morning creating a quagmire (giggity giggity) in parts. Just returned home and it's snowing wee flakes sideways, hurts your face and goes up your nose

Abigail, Barney, Clodagh, Desmond, Eva, Frank, Gertrude and Henry, are the Met Office starting a Jazz band?

stay safe people. 1C

Winds really picking up here also in the last 20 mins, the rest of my fence is swaying about already. I have tried my best to add extra support to stop it from falling over but I think by the morning it will be down.

We're in the middle of one of those now. It was reasonably calm then..bam..full on horizontal rain.

If that had been South Kessock, it would have been through the driver's window.

Absolutely beautiful!

Thought it was odd that we've had nacreous clouds sighted twice in the past week and then I wondered whether there was a link between high winds and nacreous clouds, since the last time they were sighted was during Storm Gertrude. Found this on the 'Atmospheric Optics' website:

"Nacreous clouds are wave clouds. They are often found downwind of mountain ranges which induce gravity waves in the lower stratosphere. Their sheet-like forms slowly undulate and stretch as the waves evolve. The clouds can also be associated with very high surface winds which may indicate the presence of, or induce, winds and waves in the stratosphere."

Also remembered that the one and only time I've seen nacreous clouds was during Hurricane Bawbag, which again confirms the idea. Learn something new every day eh? :D

There's a hole in the cloud over to our west I can see from the office window that appears to have a very similar colored fringe to it. Very similar to the nacreous stuff I saw this morning.

Edit: Wife just phoned from home so sent her out to take a picture of it as I can't.

That's the beauty, cracking photo of it too. Turned all orange and red around it now, there's going to be some great photos knocking about later.

You do wonder what they'd have made of that sight in 'ancient times'? The sky is on fire, we're all doomed?
