The latest BBC forecast looks not bad for central and southern areas....

NMM4 (from midday today) has a good dumping for central Scotland....

What are the chances of some of the white stuff hitting Fife tomorrow night?

GFS precip charts showing a chance of snow from 18:00 tomorrow through until midnight, could be sleet tho, depends how low ground temps get, 850's look good for it to me, where in fife are you?

I'm waiting until the morning to assess what we will get....

Don't worry i'll update at 3/4pm when the rain has moved in for me, with a touch of sleet and i'll say how if temps lowered just a bit it would be snow. I end up with wet snow that doesn't lie and most of you to the north and east get several inches....

i can already tell how it's going to go!

Latest BBC forecast seems to have the snow a little furthe south tomorrow night without really affecting fife. Hopefully it corrects a little northwards in the next 24 hours

It's my birthday on Thursday and all week my Met O app has been displaying a snowflake, either on the overall forecast for the day, or at the very least when you drill down for further info. I've just been in for another peek and horror SOMEONE'S STOLEN MY SNOWFLAKE :diablo:

Please put it back, I've got the day off and everything.

Worth remembering that yesterday evening the Euro4 was showing a rush hour snowfest for parts of Southern Scotland today! Who knows what will happen tomorrow night!

Bunch of charts re: the rush hour snow potential for Central Belt, looks like the earlier runs today made more of the front than 18z.

YRNO / Arpege / NMM / NMM Netwx / Euro 4

I'm highly surprised we don't have any weather warnings for tomorrow evening - projections suggest snow down to low levels over Southern Scotland, and we are less than 24 hours away. I'm expecting a warning first thing tomorrow morning. Very late in the day though and not very responsible..

Totally agree, the first chart I checked was Arpege and thought that looked like a yellow. Maybe they are waiting to pin point location ? UKV sees something else, or something,something.. more cynical responses..:bomb:

Sorry to those in the central belt but i think you might miss out (tomorrow).

Lanarkshire and Lothians would be the northern extent imo.

latest forecast said 'the south will see some snow, that's for sure'

Right Chris, if i get no snow. You're a dead man!

Ayrshire and further north looked good for Thursday too :)

loads of surprises coming and best of all some real cold coming along with the sunshine.

form horse now looks like an undercut of sorts which could give snow and reinforce any cold.

Loads of water to go under the bridge but i think the earlier fears of the atlantic barreling in very early next week are not founded. We should be cold (er) for 7-10 days i would think...

How snowy? How long lasting? Is completely unknown though...

The difference between the ARPEGE and the EURO4 just 24 hours out is quite something:

Rain/Snowfall rate Arpège We 13.01.2016 18 GMT   Rain/Snowfall EURO4 We 13.01.2016 18 GMT

and the NMM:

We want Arpege!

On way to the 4th air frost of the month at the rooftop of the academy, probably there by now over grassed areas.

0.6C and if we miss out tonight or we get cold rain I will not rant I promise haha

Euro4 this morning has the ppn back further North with the Borders in particular looking good. The Lothians would seem to be about the Northernmost limit of any heavy stuff though. I'd take this :-)

Met forecast is less than inspiring though with 'rain with snow on higher ground'. I guess this is backed up to a degree on Euro4 as Edinburgh for example looks marginal. I'm guessing it's the influence of an easterly wind that was mentioned in an earlier post.

Looks decent :)

well i should see snow showers thursday, so not overly concerned... Back up in Striling at the weekend and temps look bitter (usually conservative thos far out)... -5c Sunday morning, max of 0c at best. If we have some snowcover then you'd maybe beat that.

Some Highland glen will be truly very cold well into next week :)

-2c this morn and the snow cover is frosted solid, evidence of a passing shower or two overnight. Not going above zero here for the next 6 days on the MO forecast so expecting some nice low numbers.

Good luck for snaw later today peeps

MO has falkirk showing light snow from 5.00 pm then heavy snow at 10.00. Fingers crossed, perhaps I'll have a birthday snowday after all.

Salti how are we faring for some snow in this corner of Scotland?

Also yes, very impressed with the temps that are showing now on MO, clear upgrade from previous days and a great discussion topic at the Weather Club that I am running later on today :)
