1.2c at 80m asl. Was 2.7c less than an hour ago. What evaporative cooling can do.

Yes was thinking that. Precipitation consistency is similar but we have better uppers and I have a lower starting temp.

Driven from west Cumbria to Penrith in heavy ppn the whole way, ranging from a bizarre mix of settling rain/sleet in west Cumbria to heavy snow from Keswick on. A good 3 inches of snow on the higher parts of the A66 around Penruddock.

Snowing in Oldham at 300m

Oldham south @ 200m still yet to join in the snowy fun that our higher parts are experiencing.  Just a bit of sleet mixed in the rain here.

Just let the dogs out for night time wee and found that the sleet has turned to snow at last!

You'll have to keep us updated on depths! May be a chuck the kids in the car job on Sat if you get a decent amount.,

Just noticed that myself.

not a lot but it's a start and there's quite a bit of precipitation heading in so hopefully it's snow all the way from now on.

current temperature is steady at 1.6c so it looks like the uppers are now favourable.

Precipitation seems to just die of death as it heads our way, snow to our north and west, but nothing here so far.. hoping some of the heavier precipitation makes it our way and then evaporative cooling can take affect.

Tomorrow morning will see less marginal conditions. Significant chance of some heavy stuff tomorrow night /Friday morning as well.

Looking forward to some severe frosts, will come as a major shock. Could we be about to see a winter of two very contrasting halves?
