Be great if we could have a proper cold spell with snow falling to all levels instead of this rain, sleet & wet snow combo indicating the marginality involved later this week, just had a quick look at the GFS for Thursday and at the moment it looks the wrong side of marginal for most but inland with some elevation will certainly help. If ppn is heavy enough and prolonged then evaporative cooling may get snow down to lower levels.

Heavy rain here now. Maybe a convergence zone as the wind backs?

Met have hinted at a possible battleground situation mid next week, in my opinion for the northwest there a bit rubbish. Be interesting to see what happens this Thursday/ Friday though. I'm at least confident at seeing one flake of snow!

Good news is that the winds are starting to switch to a north westerly, and not from the south west.  This allows our region the first land mass that the showers will hit as they crop up of the Irish sea.  Already a small line coming into western areas now, but I expect this will all be rain to start with.

They will be rain for a while yet, colder air won't really be coming in until early Wednesday morning but the PPN at this stage does look more limited.

Ironic thing is, a NW'ly wind will be more noticetable for tomorrow yet the temps could be that bit milder as the colder air won't be filtering down as of yet and the winds are coming in from the sea whereas today was off shore and very light. Would of been a really nice winters day if there was more sunshine around.

A fair few showers heading in from the Irish Sea at the moment but temperatures and uppers are probably to high for anything more than cold rain.

Eno was less than inspiring with her outlook for the rest of the week so either she is wrong or this "cold" spell is going to turn out to be no more than an average spell and worryingly I'm putting my fiver on Eno.

Well im going to stick my neck on the line and say im expecting the meto to start issuing warnings for snow across elevated parts of the region for thur/fri.

Something along the lines of 5cm over high ground. :)

In fact wed lunchtime onward, showers should really start to turn wintry at most levels

From an IMBY point of view, I'll bank that chart but it looks like a blink and you'll miss it affair.

Ian, id be shocked if you didnt have a decent covering by friday night. Your altitude alone will suffice. And a gorgeous crisp weekend with snow on the ground.

I'm fairly sure high ground above 150m in our region will see some snow cover before the weekend is out. Lower areas may get a dusting, obviously the closer you are to the coast the more marginal it'll be.

I've fingers crossed, Saturday will be a good day for winter walking, just one will do. We've had hardly any this season so far.. I need a snow fix, normally managed a couple of decent walks under snowy conditions on the fells by now..
