Nice sun out just for an hour here temps jumped a bit and so did my wait and see what happens shoes. Just don't understand the whole speculation and then bashing over peoples thoughts on the forecast. Just look at the live maps and lightning radar tonight, we've seen to many maybe somethings then they just die out as soon as they get close to the mainland. Just see where it lands tonight and keep the cameras ready. Watching Tour De France and its just let it drop to torrential.

Agree. Play nicely people! Just because someone thinks that there may not be anything tonight doesn't make them 'negative', 'pessimistic' or a 'moaner'. Everyone is entitled to their view and not have others jump down their throat. This storm thread is one of the best parts of the netweather forum and it'd be a shame for it to go the same way as the winter mod thread when someone suggests it won't snow.

Think Harry's chart is a good one for risk....still think most won't see much tonight but those that do, will know about it! Happy to be wrong of course!

I wouldn't have believed it if I didn't see it myself.

Just had a rain shower from a blue sky with just a few wispy clouds around! And they were heavy convective type drops, quite mental

If we hadn't been blessed with the events of two weeks ago, this place would be in meltdown at the moment.

In an average year, these events (including the potential showing for tonight) don't come along too often at all!!

There is the potential for some lively thunderstorms and while not everywhere will see them, good chance for many in the SE quarter to at least witness some illuminating CBs which always makes for a nice picture.

From as far back as I woke up at about 6.15 this morning skies have been clear and blue. It wasn't particularly warm but temps quickly rose and it is a pretty hot day here now. I wouldnt say its particularly humid nor would I say its particularly dry but it is reasonably comfortable. However its not all about the humidity at the surface.

Indeed - it's been pretty glorious so far.

Phil Avery on BBC news highlighting developments now in the channel and on the French coast, Radar showing a thundery shower off the Kent coast and other showers leaving Cherbourg.

Avery expects these to become thunderstorms soon.

To my reading of things this is an 'extra' to the main event (2100hrs-0200hrs) and these imports affecting areas outside the main risk zones.

Nope!! Not seen that on any model....very much out of the blue, and clear as day on radar and lightning detectors.

The wind really has got up here, but warm once out of it. some cloud and some sun.

Really wish could see a storm in day light, because although i know the lightning is best seen in the dark, the clouds and how dark it looks coming over interests me more.

I would of been in heaven if i could of seen those storms of a couple of weeks ago heading to me! :D

Sure did, one impressive one as well... But it was very hazy and patchy, was not expecting it from such a cloud :D

That's the North Thanet district that Kent storm. Hope a supercell hits South Thanet and drops large hail on them. It's the least they deserve after they voted in another tory over Farage.

I know some will disagree, but I couldn't resist.

Three places to choose from:

• Richmond Hill / Stag Park

• Stay at my Dad's (near Woking)

• One of the high up spots in Guildford

But... Which one to choose!?
