All clear here now, no sign of any type of cloud, but the wind has picked up enough to blow someone's can down the street.

Seem to be missing the main activity, getting some strange spectacles with  lightning pushing across areas of clear sky overhead, quite surreal.

Heading to bed now, more out of necessity rather than anything else.

15 minutes later, constant lightning/thunder and torrential rain :p

The storms here for the past 2 hours are fantastic and after seeing the BBC forcasts all day they are also a real suprise!!

We have constant lighting which i've not seen in the UK for donkeys years and the thunder is truely banging and crashing now, if anything its getting louder! Normally only witness storms like these whilst im in Florida so its fantastic to get them on a similar scale here.

Interestingly though most of the lightning seems to be cloud to cloud with only the odd CG strike.

So, attempt number 2 at getting to sleep.....

Cracking storm, lots of booming thunder and lightning overhead and some really gusty winds mixed in with the heavy rain.

This is amazing, I feel like I'm back in the 80's lol.

Been going strong here for the past 2hrs with no sign of letting up yet.

I'd like to go to bed but my children won't let me bless them.

The thunder seems to be getting louder now.

True at the very least it shows there is still some energy behind the storms that are moving north now.

Been constant lightning and thunder now for an hour straight, surrounded according to the lightning detector, almost started bang on 1am as predicted by the BBC Weather - incredible storm very happy I stayed up to watch.

Enjoyable evening, even if I didn't receive a direct hit. The cells streamed a few miles either side of me but still close enough for moderate rainfall and a good prolonged lightning show - chiefly elevated but with CG every minute or so

Great to hear so many success stories from tonight. Fair to say it turned out well for us in the end after recent close calls.

Round two in East London (pic included) didn't last too long and has suddenly fizzled out which is strange as there was a storm either side of me.

Hopefully now I can sleep and must not complain of lack of storms for the rest of the year.

Absolutely magnificent weather over past 4 hours, from nothing to thousands upon thousands of lightning strikes.. (Hoping no one hurt of course.

Still like some kind of war going on in E Beds / Cambs border, flashing all around but think its steadily moving north. Constant flashing / banging though.

An absolutely fantastic light show, just adding in the biggest crack of thunder as I write this. Been out since about 1145 and at my usual vantage point could see the cell firing over the edge of Kent, and slowly the one approaching over London also. Quite a while without rain, which gave good photo ops but the lightning tortured me by striking when the shutter was closed between shots. General sheet lightning but then as time passed there were several cloud crawlers and some lovely CG strikes. Now raining heavily as I sit in the car typing this. Lighting all around still flashing, first cell has long gone off the coast and am surrounded by the orher cell which has spread and slowly moved to the north. This is an old 80s style storm, long lived and electrical. Will post shots once home, disappointed at efforts from what u see in caners but what a great night for storms in this area! And still it rumbles and flashes on...
