Chase Day 27 - 8 Tornadoes! Reports and Pictures

Recommended Posts

Started the day in Scottsbluff, NE. Headed down to Ogallala for lunch and made the decision to dive south west to play the Denver cyclone. We were treated with a near stationary LP supercell near Limon, CO that dropped at least 8 tornadoes! Many pics and video were taken. At one point there was a lovely cone and landspout satellite on the ground! Here's a quick video of one of the tornadoes. The structure was unreal with a visibly fast move meso on it! 7 years of chasing and this is by far the best chase I've had to date!

I think you cleaned up yesterday guys, as 9 T's were reported with the largest hail of 3" (love the spotters comment!);

It's 2am in Colorado, and I'm guessing that everyone has had a couple of cold beers and is trying to get the adrenaline under control before it all starts again tomorrow, so I borrowed a couple of the photo's from the team to share here, hopefully we'll get more added by the guys and guests later when they surface :

Absolutely delighted you got on on the best play yesterday. I couldn't post until much later than I normally do but could see the KS target was too occluded to produce and the CO upslope was the choice and I was relieved to see you head SW at 23z

I finally managed to get a shot of the Wedge processed :)

Great shot, the little glimpse of lightning at the top left is cool too.

This was the first tornado we saw the Simla, CO supercell produce in the distance, as we arrived from the northeast, as we got closer it continued to drop more tornadoes as the above pictures show!

I was watching this storm last night on a few streams while waiting to see if anything initiated here, was very active to say the least. I'm glad you guy's chased this storm, one of the best I've seen.

  • Warm run-up to Easter but a destabilising low means sunshine and showers at the weekend

    High pressure is keeping our weather settled at the moment, and in the main it'll stay that way until the end of the week. But with low pressure helping to destabilise the atmosphere this weekend, the sunshine will be joined by some heavy showers. Read the full update here
