Well dew points have risen light rain here and the dew points are forecast to rise. That reduces the chances even further. Tomorrow midday into the afternoon if the precipitation shown is correct we should have some some snow.

Unfortunately the rainfall is too light too have any real affect on the atmosphere so any cooling affect can be forgotten as well.

Rain shadow for Leeds so looks like a wait for precipitation.

Snowing North of Skipton which isn't that far away from us. Haven't had a shower yet reach us of any significance yet though.

Looks like the panic induced by the met office has taken their web site off line at times.

The rainfall seems to pushing through fairly quick so it should be all over faster than expected.

Its expected to come and go. Most significant spell of it wont be till tomorrow morning, as per the Euro4 and NMM are showing.

Front is about 100 miles further north so it will be interesting to see what bearing this will have. More so when it rotates and pulls south could see it lingering for longer. Uppers won't be affected as they were always going to be -4 either side of Yorkshire even with the Northern correction.

Panic induced by METO? Interesting use of Panic there! Apart from warning of a covering in some locations, they've not really caused any panic.

Well try their website unless it's under attack there's lot of people visiting it. I was also being sarcastic btw. A lot people were convinced here of heavy snow overnight.

It means we are in the milder sector. 100 miles further south would have been a lot better.

I would hardly say 'lots convinced', in fact, there is still every chance of areas seeing a covering, as per the METO warning. I haven't really seen any posting stating they'll be heavy snow in this region tonight, just a few posts pointing out that is in fact possible, posting one or two charts alongside. :)

METO website could be down for any reason, lets be honest... Attack, maintenance, people visiting. But considering that I don't remember it going down when much more snow has been forecast in years previously, I have my doubts about that being the cause.

Just Checked- The METO website is working for me, you sure it isn't your end PIT?

I'm not talking about people on this forum I'm talking to people who you work with who you go out with and drink with. People on here have access to the data listen to forecasts better and don't believe in the daily mail.

Using John Holmes excellent guide show there's little chance away from high ground for south yorkshire tonight pretty good further north though . Much better tomorrow.

So, quick round up of the models using their own precipitation charts (don't have enough time to show 850/dew point charts):

Tonight

NMM, showing snow over highest ground:

nmmuk-1-9-0.png?13-18

Hirlam expecting more snow initially overnight, though seems to be overdoing it based on current observations:

hirlamuk-1-8-0.png?13-16

Euro4 much closer to the NMM with snow only over high ground:

16011400_1312.gif

Tomorrow

Potentially more interesting for eastern areas as back-edge showers turn readily to snow even at lower levels.

Again Hirlam most promising:

hirlamuk-1-25-0.png?13-16

NMM more reserved:

nmmuk-1-22-0.png?13-18

Euro4 also not having much of it:

16011412_1312.gif

The much lower res GFS also thinks some snow likely tomorrow lunchtime/pm:

24-779UK.GIF?13-12

Overall, I think areas without elevation will struggle tonight/tomorrow. Best place to be is probably going to be over the higher parts of West Yorkshire and up over the Dales/North York Moors.

Tomorrow lunchtime and afternoon a possibility of snow to lower levels moving down central parts of the region and Lincolnshire by mid-afternoon, but again this will be a very marginal nowcasting situation.

The uppers are around -4 regardless though dew points are slightly warmer for southern areas of the region.

Could work in our favour as it keeps precipitation over us for longer as the low rotates.

Despite the light rain temperatures are dropping away, now at 2.c bodes well even for moderate precipitation.

Temperature falling slowly at 3.4c here.  Light rain falling at present.

Hoping to at least see some falling snow tomorrow though...

Well up here in Bronte country at 250m ASL it has mainly been rain with some sleety bits mixed in, was expecting more with the altitude but not to be as of yet

Current temp is sat at 2.1c

Snow falling in Liverpool bodes well for us in Yorkshire when system moves over and to east of us.
