A developing low sinking southwards across the UK, an intense high in the Greenland/Iceland region allowed a very cold airmass to flood the UK. This brought snowfalls but also very severe frosts.

Quite an unusual synoptical evolution, not often you see a developing low pulled down on the eastward flank of a ridge shifting its core heights from Greenland towards Iceland enabling a channel low scenario.

Superb snow synoptics, but rare.

Interesting that Malton was -21.2c yet York was -13.9c, thats a large difference for 18 miles.Anyway looks like rare synoptics I can only dream of.
