not along the estuary, its been raining for a while, in fact the only snow shower today was for 5 minutes, there has not been any snow cover at all and from what i have learned much of merseyside has had no cover that has lasted for more than 10 minutes.

i am 5 miles from estuary and i have had snow on ground since 07:30 this morning. Been snowing on off all day. Even now!

I am totally baffled by everything!!

Everyone seems to be contradicting everyone else. For instance you say that above and yet Diane Oxberry forecast doesn't concur.

Some say it's a polar low, others don't.

Some say it will track this way, others say that way.

Someone said SW Midlands is the sweet spot and yet Jo Farrow says it will rapidly decay as it goes inland. Therefore SW Midlands won't be a sweet spot.

It's a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma.

brilliant post

Still coming down heavy here. 3 inches where it hasn't melted during the day.

Yep Kev,

I'd ignore to be honest. Not only are Polar Lows still quite a mystery, the tracks are also erratic.

In this flow though, it looks like it will enter the Irish Sea and track through the NW as per charts & forecasts, but it will do, whatever it wants to do.

Also, it IS a Polar Low, confirmed by the Met Office, you know, those PROFESSIONAL weather forecasters as opposed to some Amatuer ones claiming they are not so sure...

It's like Einstein telling you 1+1 = 2, but Joe Bloggs tells you it's 3.

thats a little insulting don't you think?

Yes same here, was a right slushy mess before this second lot started though.

I live in Bolton.

We have had sleet and rain showers all day.

There is no lying snow. There was half a cm this morning that melted quickly.

I have fared a lot worse than majority of people on here reporting decent snow accumulations.

I feel physically sick at the news that the polar low will not be hitting this part of the region and will now log off for good and drink a large volume of alcohol to numb the pain.

Its quite difficult for me to take this as it happens repeatedly every year and I am quite passionate about snow. I drove 400 miles north last night essentially, for a bit of sleet.

You want to try living here. If the annual snow drought doesn't send you doolally then the omnipresent sight of slab grey concrete and deprivation will see you're fully depressed 365 days of the year!

Polar Lows are notoriously difficult to track, not in the least because their formation is rapid and models have a hard time picking up whats a LP and whats a  Mesoscale system. Its all down to open interpretation and nowcasting with these things, That being said it does look to be tracking SEly as it enters the Irish Sea, with upper vectors offshore Dublin giving a good indication of where the winds are aloft, so far it looks to be heading right for the Mersey and down the way to Peterborough.

its been very marginal here on the estuary, no snow cover. even when it did snow for 5 minutes, it did cover the roof and ground but was gone within minutes of it stopping snowing. very strange

Impressive, altho that footstep shot looks more like 6 inches. Whenever any of us (me included) you have to have the amount as we all get a little too excited... :p

According to the beeb earlier yeh. Even if it starts rainy/sleety I would like to think in the heavier precip it will turn to snow. May miss it all together though who knows, hard to predict this one.

Winter Storm Juno did a similar thing to New York. It was originally forecasted a lot of snow and it turns out to be less. Some people actually complain about it.

I think the Polar low will do the similar thing.

met warning for NW

During Thursday night and into Friday settling snow is likely to become more confined to higher ground in some areas as the airmass becomes a little less cold. However, a small area of low pressure is expected to move southeastwards and bring a more persistent spell of rain, sleet and snow to parts of western Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and the Midlands. This likely to lead to further accumulations of snow, especially on high ground, whilst also increasing the risk of ice. The track of this system is a little uncertain at present and this warning may be adjusted as and when necessary.

They word to this is High ground

this could be a older warning from earlier
