Not currently being forecast by the Met office for us, Is this something that has caught them out & is a developing situation ?

I'd Imagine so because my area forecast isn't snowy overnight either

Very hard to forecast Polar Lows, and very hard to predict track. So they won't have known it was coming long before hand, nor do they know exactly where it will track. Very much a developing situation.

Im confused, what does he mean by NE ? Surely the North West would be impacted by this rather than the North East ? Or does he mean NE areas of west country..

Exciting thing to watch that is for sure.

He means NE areas of west country

Well that's fairly close to us I guess if you look at it with rose tinted glasses. Anyway it's a total nowcasting situation so whatever.

Snowing In stoke had a good few cms around 11 until 1 and then slowed down a bit but started going again about 1 hour ago. Anyone know if the north West Midlands will be affected by this polar low

Back to the now. Getting into a bit of a dry gap here now regarding shower activity. No problem though as we're already ahead of where I thought we would be at this stage. Those areas north and east of me should catch this next shower train though.

For a NWerly set up, we're not doing that bad. Elevation is helping me of course as I just heard that there's no snow lying at all down in Stourbridge.

From what i know about a polar low is they dont have mild sectors so wherever it hits almost a cert that it will be snow.

Definitely a streamer setting up for now. Fairly continuous moderate snow.

Hi Dave,

Nice looking streamer setting up to the NW of the Isle of Man on a direct line with the Cheshire gap if it has the energy to make that far. A very interesting night of radar watching. Was always going to be the case in such an unstable set up and I am sure more surprises to follow over the next few days

It depends which model has this correct. GFS 12z has it affecting the NW then E Midlands in the firing line. However Met Office has it much further west of us and the NMM 06z has it over the S and W Midlands. ECM apparently has it further west too, affecting just Wales and the SW as rain.

Polar Low - here's the track

Bullseye.....attachicon.gifPL.png

Agreed. That would tie in with the weather warnings for high winds given for the south west

BBC Weather just made out that most of the Snow regarding this so called Polar Low is around East Wales and parts of the West Midlands.

But as some are saying it's very hard to predict the track even at this stage.... let's hope it intensifies and drops 10cm across all of the Midlands... Now that would be a bonus :D

Judging by what I can see of the Clent Hills (well, could before it got dark) it looks like the snow line is something like 150m, though it's variable of course.
