Heavy snow! Driving through Kirby at the minute

Sounds like it's on its way to me then! If I don't see snow in ten minutes Im going to crumble some polystyrene outside!

Dropped to 0.4°C and trying to stick! Going out for a meal at the Great Western in Marsden soon which is about 350m up so there should be some good snow up there!

Poor fayre here so far today, just a few light sleety hail showers, the snowline is roughly 300 metres, we've done poor largely because any showers we have had have been very light and shortlived.

I was on the motorway junction 36-37 this afternoon a heavy snow shower quickly covered the road.

I think we will need to rely on a more pronounced band caused by a trough to bring any snow cover as the showers we are getting are too light. Temperatures tonight should easily get down to freezing and below, unlike last night.

Looking ahead - Monday and Tuesday look like ice days..

I know it's early but don't think were going to have much luck. Just hail and ground is really wet so no chance. Glad some of you are getting snow. I'm not even thinking about next week it will change before then.

All these showers around the NW and no-one experiencing any lying snow? Can't see anything wrong with uppers so maybe as we head further into the night we can get those temps down a bit. Euro4 suggests quite a few showers for southern areas of the region between now and midnight.

Lots of areas have lying snow around Lancashire. And further east of Manchester, like Glossop.

Persistent wet snow/sleet showers now, but not sticking, ground too wet.

Temps will continue to fall, quite low tonight altho not as cold as tomorrow. It only takes 1 heavy shower to cover wet ground - it always surprises me. Fingers crossed for you!

We have lying snow and have had all day.  The temperature must have dropped because this last shower started as grauple and turned to heavy snow which has now covered all the trees etc again.

The wind vectors are too westerly. Us in the south of the region will miss out completely if this continues. I've just got back to Runcorn and it's bone dry & crystal clear. Temp is at 1.2C though, with a dewpoint of -3C. Anything that falls should be completely of snow.

Amazing how much warmer it is in Merseyside currently.

Snow line is starting to creep westwards as temperatures drop, obviously hilly areas are seeing the fluffy white stuff most of the rest of us are in the slushy category...

Should very gradually veer more to the Northwest through the night. Hoping this next one in the Irish Sea will do it, it's the first one to get as far South as the North Wales coast so far.

  • April 2024 - Was it that cold overall? A look at the statistics

General perception from many is that April was a cold month, but statistics would suggest otherwise, with the average temperature for the whole month coming in just above the 30 year average for the UK as a whole.
