Im smelling a round of major downgrades on the models tonight.....Samaritans might need extra staff tonight.

Reluctantly I think you may be right. Still a way to go though in the output.. so hold on..

In typical time honoured fashion, I put the washing out and checked radar, and skies, all clear, walked into town and get hit by first light rain, then sleet and then a short but hefty burst of hail, washing remains wet.

Good to be home with all that spare time over the weekend - when things get interesting. Tonight snow showers should pass South & East affecting parts of East Anglia even some flurries further south in London. No lying snow is a little premature? best chance in 2 years. I do not want to be depressed, I'll go MOD thread for that.

^^^^^^^

Fergie states about the rain so it shows there is juice around in the Region, hence the weather warning.

Fergie also mentioned 2-5cm poss on Sunday later, so much for that then

Please no downgrades, all i want is winter to be winter, not autumn with a hint of spring !

Upgrade on the 12z I'm glad to report.

Not at all true if PPN is at a good intensity & really does throw it down, it will settle.

It's looking grim for Sunday's snow – yet so near to being an absolute pasting.

We need the low to slide south about 70 miles than it is progged and we will get a dumping, otherwise it will be a cold rain fest for our region!

That was last night - overnight runs and the 06z runs backed away from that prognosis.

Honestly at this stage I can't see anything other than rain for next week.

We are just the wrong side of the low and have been throughout the runup to Sunday. Shame because the PPN would bear up to 7cm in some spots if it fell as snow.

I honestly don't think it's worth looking past the weekend at this stage.

This is very misinforming latter part, too much emotion is coming in evident by your post.

GFS has the thumbs up whereas UKMO is being a cow.

Thats what is so frustrating, marginal 3" snow event going the wrong way. Lets hope for a nowcast upgrade.

Indeed. Fingers crossed!

The chart you posted there is cold at the surface but certainly not cold enough for snow - Not to mention the fact that it's a very dry chart

Even before that there is possibilities which you seemed to have dodged. It is cold enough for snow, with maxima reaching 3C at best. You cannot tell if there are any troughs, which is why we have the all important FAX. It is not as if we are under an HP infulence...

Ok keep up the 'hope casting ' rather than factual based forecasting

I'd love to be wrong, I really would. I hope I am.

Perhaps, but given a couple of days ago Sunday was looking interesting and now it's more than likely going to be a rain event, assuming it even gets out of the channel. The story of this winter seems to be:

Models show potential > massive upgrades > Downgrades > Downgrades > Woo rain

I think you are wrong there's quite a bias from you? - this is totally not hope casting it is on the paper. It is fact it will get much colder thus raising the chance of snowfall. To say it's not interesting is baffling.

This thread is getting as bad as the model one.

Wait and see what happens. Otherwise all you'll end up with is an ulcer and a pile.

LOL agree

And I also think we should look at a max of 72hrs at the moment.

I vouch with you but how can you undermine the potential when it is right up for grabs. I'll say no more. :)

Whatever, as normal a shower headed to me and broke up, in fact on the school run, clear blue sky above me, cloud all around, pretty much like the storms that missed me in the summer.

last time i said 'it doesn't snow here' I had six inches of the stuff. so here goes ;-

It's doesn't snow by Bedford.

Now give me thunder storm and i really would be happy
