Lots of ppn on the gfs / meto / bbc next week, lets hope we get a sudden nowcast warning for heavy snow, which will cause chaos on the forum and be just great.

Is that likely do you think?

The weather channel who provide a lot of phone weather apps are still giving 80% snow in Medway from 3am onwards..

hi all, just wondering, the bbc forecast shows a large mass of rain/sleet/snow coming for tonight into tomorro and during tomorro day, where is this coming from? just asking as looking at the radars theres nothing really showing, is the small rashes of ppn gonna build? or is it coming but not quite on the radar yet? sorry for the silly questions x

I watched the BBC London forecast and it mentioned transient snow for the SE early on. Seemed quite clear to me. ECM T+96 has got me salivating, no one misses out - all in the mix. :)

Yes, rain. 80% chance of rain.

No, Snow. 80% chance of snow from 3am through to after sunrise.

Granted they are an American based service so who knows how much effort they put into their forecasts for the UK but that is what is shows.

We are so marginal the slightest change could change it from rain to sleet or sleet to heavy snow.

There is plenty of PPN up there.

Going by METO iPhone app predictive rainfall there is PPN around 3am ish onwards to 6am for some in region. But it's whether it would be snow, currently very marginal. But that's my focus, not that I'll be up.

Well having seen lying snow already today (With some still on the ground by darkness this evening) and the fact that sky's are clear and it is very cold means that for my area, this cold spell really hasn't been so bad so far with less than 24 hours gone.

I'm in the lucky position, in terms of snow, however, that I can and will be heading back to Leeds on Monday/Tuesday, where I'm hopeful of seeing some good snow.

Having said that, I certainly wouldn't rule out snow tonight in some lucky areas (I'm not saying everyone will see it before someone snaps my head off) and certainly there are opportunities for a number of people in this thread (Remember how big this thread is, it's not just all about South of London) within the next week. :)

Medway is so on the cusp on all these models, the smallest tiniest shift east and boom.

4K model for tonight, hmm

Hi Daniel,

Where did you get your hands on that? loving these sweet albeit unexpected surprises.

Still looks marginal but I'm willing to keep a open mind.

4K model for tonight, hmm

Unfortunately that's based on data from this morning.

Not sure what data WSI use to initialise that model but I suspect possibly 0z ECM.

We can hope!

SK

EDIT: Looking at time stamps actually it may be 6z NMM (essentially a WRF-GFS)

Currently 1.1C with dew of 1C, colder than forecast.

This post hits the nail more on the head than any of the in depth reviews of the models could.

Models are a forecast, by the nature of the word they are not certain.

We are in the firing line, who knows what might happen next!

Our hi-res snow accumulation not quite as keen as the wsi one to bring some lying snow to the se, but there's some there at least. Still a knife edge setup regardless though.

Rain/snow mix still shown on the precip type.

Don't forget you can follow on the radar here on nw - click the weather type option to display rain/sleet/snow detection + switch on the social radar to combine with the twitter snow map type system - it uses #uksnow reports from twitter to show where people are reporting snow.
