Maximum temperature today was 1.5C temperature now -2.5C and dropping like a stone.

Still plenty of lying snow but ice and fog look like the real problem.

I really could not say snef, But I'm sure they will have full snow cover at least there. What altitude is it?

About 600 ft, i think. Village in valley. She don't drive now, but bro in Wirksworth does food run.

Thanks, Polar Maritime.

We have lying snow here. It swears that there is 5 inches, but really only about 1inch remaining..... (gets coat and leaves quickly..)

Dropping  like the proverbial  stone here now.

At 18:00 was -2.8C with a dewpoint of -5.1C.

Not the lowest being recorded around with the snow fields further north, but pretty impressive none the less.

My recording unit is at 7ft 6inch high so no ground frost type effect. I have deliberately put it higher  to see if I really am in a frost hollow, but I would have tought at that height it would be minimal.

Good frost forming now, first -5 since March 2013 a definite possibility. How has Stafford managed to keep its snow I wonder, everywhere else outside Derbyshire/Peaks has lost theirs thanks to that horrid damp crud yesterday. (still got a patch at the bottom of the garden, but its tiny).

Polar Maritime,

My mum in Hognaston, I have been using the ELR webcams in Wirksworth to check on weather. You being where you are, do you reckon less snow depth than you'rn at Hoggie?

There's about 12cm of snow at Hognaston and the roads are very tricky in places.

The temperature here remained about -2.8C for 2 hrs but has now continued to drop again. It is now -3.2C.

Hope the cloud does not appear here.

Down to -6.2C.

There's a real 'edge' to the cold which you don't get when it is 1 or 2 below. Lovely.

-4C out there, ground frozen solid first time this year. Car is caked in ice.

Yet Shawbury has been hovering around 0 since midnight, having dipped to -2.6 at 9pm, according to the MO pages???? Certainly colder than that here, it was as cold as now at 1am too.

Another feeble frost once again temps have risen overnight not gone down as XC shows.

A beautiful fridgid-looking sky this morning and a very hard frost. Temperature currently -7.6C.

Snowypwl9 don't take the station readings as an accurate reflection of temps everywhere. I am just 8 miles from Shobdon, but temps here on cold nights are a steady 3-4C less.
