Several showers of wet snow and soft hail this afternoon but not long, or heavy, enough to settle; the heavier showers always a bit further north towards Buxton.

Many more people in North West thread now reporting sleet or hail showers.

Already in North Midlands on higher ground as reported byTM (and probably by PM  looking at the radar.soon).

Weather turned clear here early this pm and the temperature remained about 6C.

It is now dropping smartly (3.7C) and later on a Cheshire gap straggler might just reach crewe and telford, etc. Probably not to central areas though.

Good luck to the North Midlands.

Maybe not just PM seeing SNOW this evening, don't be suprised if you see some early tomorrow morning in the West Midlands.

A band of showers will come through during the night with a wintry aspect to them, it will be mainly to the hills but also down to lower levels in places :cold:

Oh!... Yes fizz....... it's too close to call ATM though with temps just above and Dewpoints hovering around the freezing mark.

We need heavy precipitation for SNOW to get down to lower level methinks.

We will have to wait and see, then again it's during the night..... zzzZZZZZZ for me :lazy: Just be nice to wake up to see some on the ground... hey fizz!

Without doubt the Black Mountains, the Brecon Beacons even the Lickeys will see some, but don't you think there's a chance other parts (lower levels) will see SNOW ?

Gonna be one of those night's that doesn't fall below 3c despite clear skies, hovering around 4c with a steady breeze.

It is certainly going to be an interesting few days/week for many of us in the Midlands and Peak District...Buxton has had its first laying snow today as have a few others and im betting that it wont be to long b4 more of us at least see some falling snow...we have had a mix of rain/hail showers and a few sleety wet snow showers this afternoon.....some of us are gonna get a surprise or two this month and I would love to see some real heavy deep drifting snow like March 2013 seems so long ago now...

I don't think most of the Midlands will see any snow, conditions are too marginal. Higher parts might though but previous experience tells me that we need things to be less marginal for snow in this area of Warwickshire. Still, only early December, fingers crossed our time will come this year after a snowless winter last year!

3 °C here in Bewdley and largely clear atm, if a little hazy. Chilly breeze, though. Most interesting thing I've seen today was a short hail shower in Worcester in late morning. I can see the Clent Hills from my window (well, I can when it's light!) but I'd be rather surprised if there's anything lying there at breakfast time.

Have faith....unexpected things can happen at any times... But you maybe right, too marginal, too warm... but we'll see tropicalolaf.png

temp hovering at 3.5 here and a dp of 0.7 so still too marginal but dewpoints are lower elsewhere I believe.

Yes that's the curse of the so called "polar maritime" air- the temp won't drop unless the wind goes away, but if it does no showers will reach us.

Hi snowsie.....

Welcome to THE thread.......

I' ve just come back from the Model Output thread.

Its getting very heated in there;, the models have switched off from the cold spell for next weekend and the usual people are hard at it.

However I saw the Farming Programs 'week ahead' view.

Do you want some good news?...

They expect a secondary depression to form over the Atlantic on thursday night and come straight thru the UK The exact path is still unknown, but if it comes over us   the Midlands is expected to have you know what AND a longer and enhanced continuation of the cold weather.

Now the Met Office were forcasting this yesterday evening,  but all the models seem to have backed down.

However it sounds as if the Senior Forcaster has other ideas. (or pehaps a diferent model to look at).

Didn't want to spoil the fun on the Model Output  and can't see anyone else has reported it. So you are the first to know.

Yippee

Well some parts of the midlands will see some snow tonight going by the mets yellow warning folks who are 200-300m asl.  They do say  some may fall at lower level too but i dout it. As for the mod thread there's too many hope casters in there. Quite a Lot were getting excited because some of the models were showing snow for mountains of scotland and higher grounds up north.
