Radar image shows a lot of shower activity to our NW over Galloway and N Ireland heading in our direction. Just had another very heavy hail/wet snow shower but again short lasting. However, activity in next 12 hours looks like delivering more notable lengthy periods of precipitation with a trough forming in the flow.

Yes not a day to be out on the fells - significant wind chill. Pleased you managed a cover, here the showers have been too fleeting to enable a cover, but we may get lucky overnight.

Where is your location?

There is often a marked difference in conditions between north and south lakes as well as west and east lakes. Indeed there is a separate entity called central lakes as well centred roughly on Thirlmere-Grasmere-Ambleside-Langdale area extending its influence towards us and Patterdale. which often does well in slow moving trough scenarios when a warm front moves in from the west and we have a SE/S flow, also in any set up when evaporative cooling takes hold i.e. polar air moving in from the sw/west/nw and as it rises it cools over the western fells bringing down temps and aiding shower development, classic territory for homegrown Lakeland snow showers.

If Tuesday's snow doesn't come, there is also next weekend or possibly beyond to look forward to:  https://forum.netweather.tv/topic/81936-winter-2014-15-thread/?p=3111656  :)  :cold: :cold:

John Hammond says the jet stream will go further south, taking the mild weather with it.

Northern end of Bassenthwaite Lake

Yes i find south lakes does much better from anything coming in from the west / south west, and the north lakes benefits most from anything Northerly through to Easterly.
