Yesterday and today was quite cold and cloudy.

Doesn't look much better for the weekend in all honesty.

Bring back the sunshine and 10c please!

Managed to miss the heavier rain though - so far.
In fact the afternoon has been dry with a little brightness here.
It was snowing lightly for a while about dawn.

It tried to rain about an hour and a half ago.

But it failed.

The grey and glumness continues.

Is this 50 Shades of Grey being played out in meteorological terms?

A few glimmers of brightness earlier but cloud is back in charge now, tomorrow looks similar again with highs around 8c, Monday looks wet and windy then a sunnier day on Tuesday

In the depth of winter it would be nice to see this thread buzzing with excitement.

Instead we have a handful of posts a day at most, as nothingness prevails above.

Grey, greyer and even greyer.

This really is dull weather - no pun intended! The models aren't even offering any crumbs of comfort for the foreseeable future either.

Roll on spring.

2 snow warnings issued for the region

Issued at: 1046 on Fri 20 Feb 2015

Valid from: 0600 on Sun 22 Feb 2015

Valid to: 1700 on Sun 22 Feb 2015

Rain, sleet and snow spreading east on Sunday will tend to turn back to rain, but remain as snow on high ground where accumulations of more than 5 cm are expected in places. Winds will gust to over 50 mph on coasts and hills, leading to blizzard conditions on high level routes. The public should be aware of difficult driving conditions and the risk of disruption to transport.

Chief Forecaster's assessment

An Atlantic frontal system will meet colder air over northern parts of the UK, bringing snow for a time. Whilst much of this will turn back to rain, routes above about 200 m northern Scotland and about 300 m northern England will have a prolonged spell of snow, which will drift in the strong winds.

Areas covered

Darlington, Durham, Northumberland, Gateshead, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Newcastle upon Tyne, North Tyneside, Redcar and Cleveland, South Tyneside, Stockton-on-Tees, Sunderland

Issued at: 1026 on Fri 20 Feb 2015

Valid from: 0005 on Mon 23 Feb 2015

Valid to: 2355 on Mon 23 Feb 2015

Frequent hail, sleet and snow showers are expected on Monday. Accumulation of 3-8 cm are possible to low levels across Scotland and Northern Ireland, whilst up to 15 cm of snow can be expected over higher ground. Across northern England accumulations to low levels are likely to be transient, whilst on hills 6-10 cm of snow is possible. Winds will be strong at times, with gusts to over 50 mph on coasts and hills. The public should be aware of the risk of disruption to travel and for hazardous driving conditions at times.

Chief Forecaster's assessment

A deep area of low pressure is expected to become slow-moving to the north of Scotland on Monday. A strong and cold westerly flow on its southern flank is expected to bring frequent showers to many parts, these falling as hail, sleet and snow in the warning area. Accumulating snow can be expected early and late at low levels, especially in Northern Ireland and Scotland, whilst snow is likely to accumulate above about 200 m throughout. Lightning could be an additional hazard.

Areas covered

Durham, Northumberland

What do we think then, do we actually have a chance of snow this time? I'm a bit gutted tbh, 3 lines of washing out today, not sure I want a return to cold!

High ground should see some snow low levels just plain old rain as temps are likely to be too high for snow below around 300m

This Sunday event seems to be rather trivial this side - looks like maybe 2 or 3mm between about 2pm and 6pm.
At about 4C there may be a few flakes at first.

Wet snow for a while an hour ago, quite surprising as it had been 5C but soon dropped back during the shower, 1.8C now.

Looks like some rare frontal snow for parts of the region tomorrow.

Shame it hadn't hit early in the morning as would have increased the chances of low-ground snow.

Quite a high windchill though,so feeling very cold for all.
