We did well in the March 2013 Spell.

That was the best snowy spell I have ever seen. It snowed moderately non-stop for 2 days. 5ft drifts all over and at least 25cm level in sheltered areas.

Gusts have just started to pick up here.

Yes, rather gusty now. My windows are being buffeted.

Also, March 2013 was simply astonishing. It's one of my top 5 snowfalls of all time. Proper powdery snow drifting in the wind. Unusual for this urban and sheltered location. Not to mention the fact that it lasted for days after, with some snow lingering into early April. Also - ice days! Never thought I'd see that in late March.

Saturday still looks good to me!? Even before next week. Both BBC and METO websites are showing a long period of snow from Sat afternoon into the evening, with it heavy at 6pm. Hopefully this is the trough that was projected to push south still present!

They are going for heavy in Barnsley as well from 6pm and then light snow at 9pm so hopefully we get a few hours of heavy stuff :) exciting times ahead

2.c and heavy sleet.

DP 1.c

Yeah similar here. The snow turned to sleet after about 15 minutes. Still gives out hope that it will turn back to snow at some point in the night, although on the tops where its higher (500-600m asl) its probably stayed as snow.

Rubbish in Sheffield so far. Hardly any PPN making it down here. Very windy though, more so than last night definately!

On and off heavy sleet for the last hour despite temps around the 2-3.c mark.

Colder uppers coming in around 3am.

Around 10/11am tommorow a band of sleet and snow passes through the region. Higher ground in particular should see a covering. Snow down to lower levels providing there is intensity, otherwise more sleety/wet snow.

Don't be surprised to wake up to a covering of snow tommorow before the band arrives.

After that a repeat of the other night, further heavy snow showers coming in from the west. Wind direction is more favourable for our region this time, more westerly instead of south west. Some significant localised accumulations possible.

All within the next 48 hours.

Exciting stuff

Latest NAE looks good for parts of our region, a period of snow tommorow afternoon and heavy sleet/snow showers saturday two. Obviously these models aren't 100% but they handled wednesday mornings event quite well so might not be too far off the mark

Sounds promising doesnt it. Could be a snowy weekend coming up even before the 'main event' next week.

P.S. Did anyone else watch Look North? No way will we get temps of 4c over the weekend and Monday id have thought? The T2m temps posted from GFS in mod thread are close to 0c in London even. I am expecting very cold days next week, even ice days????

I agree totally, but I think any decent accumulations altitude of around 100m+ will be required at least.

Not to say ground below this can't get a respectable 2/3cm..

I'm expecting no more than 2-5cm in most places. Even on higher ground.

Unless you're in a sweet spot where the showers just happen to align.

Hopefully that's out area!

Hudson hinting of an easterly next week is what I found more interesting.

The 4'C will be day time max which will probably be coastal areas, hilly areas to west won't get much above freezing I should think.

Haha.

Well I'd say the favoured areas are definatly west/north yorkshire and western parts of south yorkshire, generally the further west you are the better. As ever wih showers coming in from the north west this will always be the case. But the flip side, come sunday when this disturbance tracks down the eastern side of the uk it will be east yorkshire, linconshire at greatest risk!
