Well I went to queensbury and it was snowing hard when I got there, unfortunately (for me) looks like the wrap-around part of the system was just a bit north so it soon stopped. Excellent pics from those who got hit though by the way, here's hoping that the westerly delivers over the next 2 days for all of us! Good luck all.

Heavy hail shower that quickly turned to heavy snow just came through. The snow has settled at the edges of the road and on car roofs.

WOW thats amazing snowjoking! Really good pics too. you cant beat trees covered in snow can you! Beautiful :D

I agree with vizzy too, another epic fail for short range forecasting, only last night the BBC showed a band going accross the midlands, no where near as north or as heavy as it turned out to be!

Plenty to look west for in the next few days I think! :cold:

Certainly plenty of activity to come from the west over the next few days, but the questions are .... how many showers will there be, at what elevation will the showers fall as snow too, and how far east will they make it?. Well we have certainly have had more than our fair share our Polar Maritime blasts this winter and I feel I've learnt a lot from them and gained some knowledge. What we know for definite is there will be showers, but there always seems to be a sweet spot in each event that does the best, usually in the event of a streamer, eg parts of south yorkshire a few weeks back. Where this occurs we find localised snow accumulation and the chance of places further east getting in on the action. Shower activity tomorrow looks like peaking in the early hours, this is supported by NMM model, BBC and MetO weather charts, which is good as this will hopefully coincide with the coldest am temps, a quick look at the 850HPA temps for 9am

Looks pretty decent to me with uppers between -6 to -8c, IMO this would support snow to fall down to sea level, espech in the heavier showers, but settling I reckon some elevation will be needed. As the morning progresses the snowline will rise up due to it being early March and the sun being stronger than usual.

So back to the sweet spot, heres my opinion on where will be the best placed area tomorrow morning based on what I've observed over the winter:

So if we use the A1M I expect showers to be most frequent between Thirsk and Pontefract. Shower activity looks to peak again as we head into tomorrow evening so will see how this forecast pans out and maybe try it again for later tomorrow.

Nice post vizzy, good luck with your forecast. Ill be radar watching until i go to bed and then see what I wake up too lol! Plenty of chances as we say over next 48 hours. METO forecast is decent for around my area as an example, this probably representative of what we might see in most western areas:

^^ This very much reflects your thoughts vizzy on early hours tomorrow and then again in the evening :)

Then perhaps some more chances early Tuesday

Yes early Tuesday is looking good, very similar to tomorrow morning and some at lower levels may get a surprise when they wake up. Maybe even myself here out east :)

Awesome snowfall pics 'snowjoking'...looking at METO warnings your region may get quite a bit more during next 48hrs...

That little shower over Blackburn area is pretty heavy, might produce the odd sferic, nice little potent shower that, but wizzing through quiet quickly.

Yeah, best we could do here too. Rather frustrating, was hoping we'd do better. Sometimes you get streamers like a few weeks ago and then times like today you just get a bit of hail, wasnt even proper snow. Weired:

Regular snow showers this morning, covering on grass but otherwise melting as it lands. Definitely nothing to get excited about though.
