Heavy small flake snow here for past 10 minutes.

Grass and cars already covered. This one isn't as intense as the BIG one following, and that's going to hit worst time as people will be leaving school / work and going home.

It hurts to walk in as well, as so small flakes combined with the strong winds.

Fine snow in Leeds. Very blustery in the wind. Looks awful outside!

Yes, snowing horizontally at the moment!  Quite spectacular seeing the bands of snow in the wind.

Big flakes now. Proper Blizzard.

If you can, get home now as this is only going to get worse; thankfully I work at home :)

so people are reporting snow in leeds, but the radar shows it as sleet, how come, im in wakefield and the radar just looks to show sleet on its way, and looking at NMM for the rest of the day it keeps this area and parts of leeds in the sleet zone, lets hope its wrong.

I'm in the city centre and its a snow / hail mix.  Definitely no sleet, but its not settling.

Was feeling rather confident earlier for West Yorkshire for tonight's events but after watching latest on news 24 I'm now not so sure. But tommorow morning looks abit more intresting.

Those radar's are not always accurate to be honest.

The BBC are always less useful in shower situations, their graphics should not be taken as gospel in this sort of set up. :)

Forecasts have toned down the heavy snow for my area in Leeds. Still predicting a long period of snow, but most of it is light showers. We shall see.

Still snowing heavy here, keeps switching from massive flakes, to medium to tiny dots and back again but all the while staying very intense.

Ground cover is probably about 1cm now, but not going out to measure in it as it looks horrid due to the wind.

BBC very reluctant to go much further than tomorrow morning and I don't blame them. As for the showers the weather graphics are pretty meaningless and they are just a generalisation. some areas that look like they are being missed could get plenty and others the opposite. Radar much more useful in this instance

  • April 2024 - Was it that cold overall? A look at the statistics

General perception from many is that April was a cold month, but statistics would suggest otherwise, with the average temperature for the whole month coming in just above the 30 year average for the UK as a whole.
