What is men't by an" Indian summer", in the scientific sense.

It's a spell of fine, warm anticyclonic weather occurring after the first Autumn frosts, usually in the second half of October or the first half of November.

Yes I believe it descends from Indians in north America where they get a period of nice weather quite late in the year whereas here it is 'wrongly' described as a period of summer weather outside of august ..ie September and into October.Some of these notable periods have often come after a poor summer as in 1985 and 1986 and a good one recently 2008 although 2006 was good after a good summer!!!!!
