Of all the webcams in the world and that one gets posted. Haha classic! If you used that road to commute everyday, you get fed up with that crossing, surely?

That squall line moved through very fast not even 2 minute at best, the rain reminded me of that May storm! :)

A bit of interest out to the west as convection initiates in the post-frontal airmass. A few nice radar echoes heading this way :)

just got back from my chase.....an interesting one for sure....storms developed to the west of Swindon and rapidly started kicking out a lot of lightning. Passing through central Swindon I had to pull over because visibility was almost non-existant due to rain and large hail. The storm motion was rapid with broadscale circulation as it matured. This particular storm had an unusual motion as it was moving quickly NE against the general westerly flow which in conjunction with the broadscale circulation did make me wonder whether it was developing a mesocyclone and other supercellular characteristics. I gave up the chase just to the south west of Oxford as due to heavy traffic it was outpacing me.

I've had a quick look at the zoomed in radar and at the signatures from the powerful Ely storm, and it is the same storm that I chased. It's certainly well organized and long lasting. I do wonder whether or not it might be an embedded long lived supercell?

just to add, unrelated to the above, but another bowing line of heavy showers is developing nicely in North Wilts/Gloucestershire tracking due east. One to keep an eye on as it tracks east into more 'juicy' air

It's still on a direct course for Dronfield, but one of two bad things could still happen! It could swing to the north, or die out. If anything it has strengthened though, and it remains on course! :)

Wondering if that heavy shower out west will come this way. The wind direction here says yes radar movement says going to be close. A bank off clouds that developed over us and looked threatening briefly did move west to east and showed this on the radar so we shall see.

It'll definitely hit you. It's tracking north of Chezzie and should just about clip us here on the southern edge. The main question is whether it stays electrical.

Although the last couple of radar runs show a reduction in rainfall intensity slightly.

You've killed now. Sheffield shield will definatley shred it after recent wobbles.

I think showers that have to cross the Pennines tend to lose their intensity more often than not. We do better from a S-N direction. Still, it's going to be a heavy shower passing through with an outside chance of thunder. Not to be sniffed at today in this location.

A couple of strikes in the last 10-20 minutes and not much change in the intensity of the shower either. Getting ever closer :D

Right on our doorstep here now, black skies to the west, and looks more intense on 1540 radar. Hoping for a rumble or three :)

    • Cool Showerfest continues for the next week. Hints of a change beyond that?

With the jet stream close to the south and low pressure nearby over the next 7 days, expect showers or longer spells of rain over many areas, staying cool too, with temperatures below average. But hints of something drier and more settled arriving next weekend. View the full blog here
