Spanish plume anyone? Storm and convective discussion 17th July Onwards

Recommended Posts

The sea breeze seems to be "winning" at the moment, killing the convection off for the time being.

Agree even if it is ever so slight - feels very oppressive this way currently - to be fair even some fresh rain would be great!

Hearing some distant rumbles of thunder hear. Looks like there's a storm intensifying on the North Kent peninsula.

Although we're thankful for the sea breeze initiating the storm clouds as it converges with low level winds coming in from the west it seems evident that the breeze has choked out the low level inflow and starving any storms that have initiated along the CZ. Hopefully the chance of an isolated storm increases as the CZ is forced east around 4-6pm around coastal areas.

Looks like the stom has reached Norwich now.

Rain is really pelting it down, more flooded roads to contend with when I travel home in an hour.

Looks like it could last a while!

Question......

The recent violent storms we've witnessed in the UK, have contained huge amounts of lightning (for the UK) we've probably had all the variants known (Ball Lightning?)

Do ALL CG types (the ones that go straight down) actually hit something? Or do some just fizzle before reaching an earthing?

Also, have we had a higher proportion of Positive CG than usual for

the UK?

Lastly, I saw some spectacular anvil crawlers and lightning between clouds, some very, very bright and (THICK) also between clouds and crawler types ..... Some of the crawlers seemed to travel great distances! Perhaps 10 miles, possibly 15 miles, is that distance possible or pure optical illusions?

Cheers for any answers... By the way, I'm talking about Friday night into Saturday morning (10:30pm to 03:30am) and observed over Kettering/Northampton/Market Yarborough direction from LE30BB

Well this small part of Hampshire must be the only part of the country to have remained storm free - few distant rumbles on Thursday night and that's it - even 10 miles west they said it was the storm of the decade. I'm sure our time will come!!

Don't give up hope, there is normally a storm shield for here but these past few days it has broken! I'm a bit in shock to be honest! It does happen, and I hope for you that you do get a storm sooner rather than later. I do understand your disappointment though, nature/weather can be very frustrating!

Wow! Just checked..Chelmsford Brentford best look out. They'll only intensify further.

Looking like it's moving north. I may be in luck.

Any reports from southend ,must be some flooding there now cell not moved for ages

It's backtracking and rotating counter clockwise. I've been watching it for an hour now and it's barely moved.

You did Harry. Can quite clearly hear and see it from here but it is many miles away. Not sure what direction it's headed.
