Sferics died down for a time but looks to be picking up according to the Real-Time Lightning detector. Anyone else Netweather Extra Radar not updating? Mines stuck on 17:25...

Now they bring the warnings out. :shok:

Normal lightning detector stuck on 17:15 too.

So Met seem to think the possible overnight MCS will be more confined to the SW then.

I'm so lucky as I'm in Exeter for my work experience at the Met Office this week. Leaving for Bristol tomorrow where I should be in a better position for storms for Saturday

I think a red weather warning would only be issued when there is already something extremely severe happening, such as flash flooding or damaging hail from a supercell. I wouldn't rule it out, as it is a possibility. We've had supercells already this year, and it only takes a particularly slow moving example to cause major flooding problems, and more besides...

Would the MO ever release a tornado warning if the conditions occurred?

Another day and yet another change. A downgrade for us as far as cape goes on saturday. Looking more like Thundery rain as any storms fizzle out before they reach us.  Tomorrows forecast may upgrade and on the day of course anything can happen. Had storms appearing where the predicted conditions were not supposed to support storms,

Friday looks better at the moment. We shall see.

Did anyone just see the latest BBC Weather forecast? Looks like monsoon rains passing over the country tomorrow!

Looked pretty fantastic. West is best for a Freaky Friday, East is best for a superb, spectacular Saturday :D

How I've missed those direct North movements of the MCS's, its been a bloomin long time!

Boom, first lightning strike on my map (unless it's a false signal)

Has landed

Just south of Dartmouth, Devon

A little strange place to be but if any more sferics follow then we can determine whether it is real or not.

The storms in the channel, look fantastic!

According to the latest lightening map 18.00, looks like a strike almost on top of The Met Office. I bet that woke them up

I think the strike that appeared just off the coast from Grimsby confirms that things aren't working as well as they should be though.

Seems to be getting it's act together in the channel now!

hopefully it can extend a bit east or if not I may drive a bit west.Odd if there was a strike at Dartmouth, nothing on the radar.. but increasing Altocumulus Castellanus to the south with turrets getting higher.. maybe something just fired. Never a bad sign to see those clouds anyway.

The ATD strikes almost over the Met Office (lol) must have been false detections, unless there was lightning without any rain or significant cloud somehow

Blitzortungs live detector *( http://www.blitzortung.org/Webpages/index.php?lang=en&page_0=12 )

Is certainly showing a wider area now. Not sure how accurate the ones on the "map" are.. One has been discounted as a false detection..

Not looking that great here in all honesty. West tommorrow, east Saturday. Nothing that central, certainly not a focus. Can't moan though as we've had a few storms already this summer, just looks like we could be missing out on a big occasion this time round.

Not bad webcam here at Berry Head, Brixham near Torquay

It pans all the way round a step a a time and shows the black skies towards Dartmouth and where the storms are probably approaching from (to the right of the aerial mast where the two big rocks are in the sea)

http://www.berryhead.co.uk/

or this one at Salcombe that pans around. Needs cleaning though with the looks of it

Too many people writing it off just by looking at the radar/lighting maps. Watch more strikes appear eastwards of the main cluster as it moves Northwards.

Looking at charts and all the Variables gives a pretty good idea of areas that are going to miss out. Think people are actually talking about Fri/sat for chances.
