Cloud quite thick here, hadn't noticed the wind direction until your post, but yes, you're right, the surface winds are from the NE, interestingly, radar shows showers heading North.

Case of storms heading against the wind?

Storms/showers/clouds are steered by the winds higher up. Can see how they veer with height on this set of maps

Few rumbles here this morning, nothing too bad so far thankfully. Bit of rain but it's stopped for the time being.

Good selection of maps showing that Paul, illustrates it perfectly.

As an aside question, does that contribute to the "Shear" we hear so much about?

When I last saw the forecast at 7pmish they showed precipitation covering south east england, heavy bursts with possible thunder. It was due to arrive about 5am!

I woke up, looked outside and it was dry and sunny, it's now partly cloudy and sunny spells and very humid still no rain.

And you lot think the beeb and met do a good job? Seriously

My rain is missing too! Been sunny and warm all day! 26c! Will this rain turn up later than expected? :unknw:

Here's your proof so netweather can't back track and say it didn't happen

She said " The rain stretching  right across the south east into EA "

WRONG

The forecast has gone wrong! Question is, will it rain later here?

All we have had here is about 10 mins of light rain. Some through the night too.

I think the storms are going round me again.

It is very weird that we are often forecast rain and have warnings out, but it rarely hits us, very dry part of the country. But I like a bit of torrential rain now and again. Perhaps Bertha will bring some?

WRONG

So it's wrong, it just goes to show how difficult it is to get it right.

I was in Sweden earlier this week and we were forecast thunderstorms Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, didn't happen.  Did happen 50km away and stretched 100km south east of that.

If you look at the radar from earlier this morning, the first heavy pulse went up the North Sea, so was 75km East of where it was predicted to be

It hasn't rained yet here and I don't expect it to be as heavy as predicted as I take into account our microclimate

Yes, that's exactly what shear is - changes of wind direction at different heights. It also applies to changes of wind speed too :)

It's not the first time they've found it difficult to get something right though!
