Not sure if this will work (or be huge!) but this is the small cell sitting over the central belt, only seen one cg from it which is about the same as every other "storm" this year!

Mornin' all! Currently 12c here, cloudy but dry . I've just seen the forecast for next week.....tell me, we're still in the month of August aren't we?  Or have we slipped into November already? :cold:

Yep - it's August, you would be forgiven for thinking a switch has been flipped to late Autumn, such is the strength of this cold trough. Looks persistent too, for a large part of remainder of August...

Hopefully it will be all out of the way and we can get back to a nice late summer feel for September..

Just had more drizzle this morning no combining  today. That means we are looking at late tomorrow for a start before the next lot of rain arrives. This is begining to feel like 1985 when we still had half the crop to cut on the 11th of October and were cutting at moistures of up to 30%.This time we have the problem of low dormancy barleys which may make it a total write off. The only mitigating factor being the cold which may help to prevent it.This has all been brought about by a superb growing summer which has ripened the crop 2 weeks earlyif only it was still green it would be safe from the next 2 weeks rain.Very cool this morning with a moderate northerly wind and currently 11.3c

Good luck NL !! Whilst folks are bemoaning this trough ruining summer a good reminder of the impacts of our fickle climate are more than superficial sunny days.

I still think this August is better than many summer months 2007-2012. A few cool, cloudy and wet days have happened but overall it has not been a washout. Fairly humid feel to the last few days, I frequently keep checking the temperature as it usually has read 17c and yet it feels like 20. Today has been sunny since 12 and reached 19.7c. Still feels like summer, after all the sun has the strength of the very end of April and it's done yet. September is the real month of change IMO

Have to point out that the area worst affected is from just east of Invernessin the west to about Fochabers in the east on the south side of the Moray Firth exposed to the north wind. They were combining yesterday on the Black Isle in the rain shadow of the mountains to the north.  Combines now being fitted with dual wheels as low lying areas have standing water under the crops which will take weeks to drain/dry away  Currently drizzle and 10.2c

I think that may be down to the very free-draining soils on some parts of the Black Isle too. We had a phenomenal amount of rain last weekend and into the week here - more than I can remember for August, easily 4" over 3 days - but there's been little standing water anywhere.

I was about to write that the strong westerly wind that's started up today will help dry the crops and ground, but it's strong enough to push the showers right across the mountains.

Yep rain stopped play about midday but we are going again although its pretty black to the west again. Intense pressure to get the crop cut now combines everywhere.

I was out and about a bit more this evening and saw some fields that looked up to about 50% wrecked by wind and rain, but most fields ok. No combines that I saw, but a few big trailers heading out towards the grain store at Tore so they must have been busy somewhere.

That would be my store also. Just come in combine away to another farm. Don"t want too much damp grain to look after.

Heavy, slow moving showers here since first light. Wind swinging round to NW now and yesterday's warm interlude seems to have fizzled. Not good. A summer that started so well has turned round to bite us.

Not a monster Atlantic Beastie but enough bite and cold air wrapped up in this one to really flick the Autumnal switch..

Couple of satellite images and latest Water Vapour and Airmass Imagery from Eumetsat. Also the plenty of places up and above 40mph gusts.

Large area covered by yellow warning, which I thought was suprising considering the depth of the system is just below 990mb and we usually get a hell of a lot worse. Still one to blow away those cobwebs..

Popped this in the Volcanic Thread, thought it too good to just hide in there.

Wet here also managed to cut half the crop however but very tired. Barley very white looking(bleached by rain) but seems to meet most quality standards apart from appearance so that is a great relief. At least being up the hill the water runs away from us but the guys lower down are cutting the heads off through standing water especially the clays round Duffus near Elgin. Dual wheels and tracks on the combines are needed here but lots of reports of combines sinking and getting stuck. Currently 12.4c

An autumnal feeling day here - heavy showers on and off and a cool gusty wind, in the heavy showers temps at a woeful 10-11 degrees, outside showers climbing to just about 14 degrees - distinctly cooler than normal. Another day with no sunshine.

Skies have just cleared a bit here with a fantastic view across the Firth in clear arctic air reminicent of mid October.

Plenty of wintry looking shower clouds to the north with their yellow and grey colours  against a vivid blue sky  background.

Drying up a bit with a strong cold north north west wind and currently10.9c.

Will keep an eye out this week early mornings to see if Ben Wyvis gets a fresh cap.

Near Bettyhill today. Unseasonably chilly, heavy showers persisted through the night and are reducing visibility. Rain absolutely hammering down just now.

T shirt 2 weeks ago, 2 shirts, fleece & coat today. Bloody hell, it's still August!

Cool and breezy here too but at least we're missing most of the showers and there are a few sunny spells. 16c in a WNWly breeze which fortunately isn't nearly as strong as yesterday!

Interesting to note a few stations up north are still above average for the month as a whole. I'd imagine that that will change over the next few days! http://www.met.reading.ac.uk/~brugge/CURR.html
