"No single factor is likely to be the whole story, and there is much more to be written in the tale. Lyons and coauthors, along with research groups from around world over, are focusing current efforts on the timing and drivers of oxygenation in the late Proterozoic"

 

And more to come by the look's of things, it's certainly an important time in Earth's history and could lead to many other questions.
