Just rain here and miserable, warmer than earlier and just slightly windy but very dark skies out west. I think the violent gusts from earlier came from an eastly direction

Just drizzle and blegh here today, was in Buxton town earlier this morning and it was pretty chilly even with the arctic gear on. But no snow fallen anywhere around these parts contrary to the forecast earlier on, I can live with drizzle as im off down to the local anyway tonight and didn't really fancy braving a skating rink.

What is the intensity like? I could see over to Liverpool way and it was like someone had put a veil of rain over the northeast of Wirral and Liverpool, looked really intense!

Does anyone know if the storm has passed us or is it still to come tonight?-I saw no gales or exceptional rain or 'stormy weather' is it still to come???

That explains it Maria, from here it looked biblical, the sky was a yellowish colour and I couldn't see at all past a certain point the rain curtain was only a few miles away but I could see a 'ground steam' on the fields, even from here as it was so heavy.. hard to explain.. surely such rain has caused flash flooding in places??

IMO one of the most amazing things about this winter, or certainly the last few weeks has been the way that the cold air has always remained in the north of the region and beyond with the forecast snow not usually materialising.

Today was a perfect example of that with the snow forecast for the Pennines ending up as sleet at best and the snow that was meant to accompany Wednesday's severe storm giving nothing but a slushy mess.

In the meantime though Scotland's high ground has been buried in the stuff.

Maybe the expected calming down in current conditions will lead to something a bit more seasonal but certainly IMBY I've never seen less snow and frost in a winter.

Quiet in here tonight , where's all bad weather friends !!....neighbours just told me his dogs eaten the steering wheel of 14 plate bmw !!!.....

If we wait long enough along will come a scientist blaming the dogs change of diet on global warming.Cameron will pledge as much money as is necessary to protect vulnerable BMW steering wheels and The Daily Express will assure us that a Monster dog is arriving, the worst for 200 years to eat every steering wheel across the UK.
