I was thinking of seeing a sting jet type set up when looking at sat images but that doesn't seem the case at the moment

This storm has been brutal though south coast is getting hit hard at the moment.

The strongest winds are likely associated with the occluded front moving towards E towards the SW now, been fairly calm here but winds really increased recently along the front. So the winds may get a bit worse yet there before they get better.

Trampoline in my back garden is standing its ground.

My place is getting a battering though.

Trying to comfort myself with the thoughts that this bad part should pass within 4 hours

The strongest gusts certainly seem to be associated with the squalls so I'm imagining once the worst of that big blob over Wales moves away to the NE over the next couple of hours, our patch will start to see some respite.

Just saw a post showing a picture over the sea with our current storm and the us snow storm cloud joining together.

If this is true does this mean something catastrophic?

Thanks - you can see that here too http://earth.nullschool.net/#current/wind/surface/level/orthographic=-24.02,60.04,1226

Will we get an Atlantic supercharged version of the present US ice storm next week at some point?

Reports that a restaurant on the seafront at milford was flooded and 32 people rescued..why on earth would a beachfront restaurant open when there were clear warnings of flooding?? Still howling wind here in the forest but thankfully no power cuts or damage...

Have to admit I thought that too! The police and army had to be called in to get them out. Surely that would be the last place you'd go tonight with all the pre warnings? You may aswell take a picnic to the beach!

Looks pretty mean on that website. I wouldn't mind a lot of snow.. But since it still has a "hurricane" type shape it will probably still mean more wind right? I've had enough!

Wind calmed down for a lil bit but once it got closer to 4am it's picked up a lot! Basically like 12am gusts but they have dropped to 61mph supposedly.. 4mph less how generous!

I think right now has been the strongest gusts of the night. 56mph but must be hitting my place from the right direction. Plenty of shaking.

Sat here in my pyjamas drinking my coffee trying to get myself together to go outside to work in this. Perhaps the calves won't notice if they miss breakfast? Nah not going to get away with it am I! Will have to survey any damage when it gets light.
