This is sounding pretty scarey now. I can't remember the last time we've had winds and gusts for such a prolonged period and at this strength. Lights flickering, windows creaking, howling down the chimney.

From the Beeb

Virgin Trains said in a later tweet: "We are advising all customers not to attempt to travel. Customers already on services will be taken to the nearest station."

It also said all services out of London Euston were suspended until further notice due to adverse weather.

And

The M60 Barton High Level Bridge in Greater Manchester is closed in both directions. A lorry has overturned on to a car.

Can hear lots of sirens here now at intervals flying down the main bypass near here. Very violent gusts here on the coast.

According to the BBC reporter in Blackpool it is due to peak at 9pm. You gotta be joking right? It is worse enough right now.

Not seen a Red wind warning for the north-west for a very long time...folks back in Southport saying their lights are flicking and stuff is shaking. Pretty amazing this storm. Slightly worse to come? I dunno but gusting well into 70mph at the coast it seems

Back down here we're still living in effectively what is a rather large lake lol.
