Forecaster on the BBC said expect maybe more than 100mph winds on Anglesey - good luck Salopwatcher and anyone else unfortunately enough to be there.

The wind is really gusting now in Exeter, rain at times has been horizontal, I think our peak will be around 12pm? If I had to guess it would be around 50mph gusts so far....

WILD WEDNESDAY

Judging by xcweather currently the SW is just about dodging a bullet regarding the strongest gusts with most in the region getting 50 to 60mph peak gusts. Meanwhile Southern Ireland isn't so fortunate with winds there gusting around the 70 up to 80mph range. This risk moving NE during the day, tell folk to batten down those hatches over the coming hours if you know anybody in the NW and Northern England.

From what I know about sting jets, they don't arrise if the system has occluded fronts, going by the fax outputs, it is occluded?

I'm thinking now that the red warning is simply down to the pressure gradient and tight isobars increasing wind speeds, not a sting jet.

Kinsale Energy platform in the Celtic sea recording sustained winds of 74mph (64knots)!

Worst of the winds are to hit Ireland over the next 3-4 hours.

Hourly updates from the main stations can be viewed here http://www.met.ie/latest/reports.asp

Any reason why the MO were so long in issuing a red warning? Magic Seaweed suggested this would be the case some 24 hours ago.

Danger Danger:

TORNADO WATCH 2014/001  ( FROM TORRO )

A TORRO TORNADO WATCH has been issued at 1125GMT on Wednesday February 12th 2014

Valid from/until: 11:25- 21:00GMT on Wednesday February 12th 2014 for the following regions

Parts of (see map)

England

Wales

S Scotland

Channel Is

IoM

THREATS

Tornadoes; wind gusts to 100mph; hail; isolated CG lightning

DISCUSSION

Intense Atlantic low will move from W Eire to W Scotland today. At the surface, a strong cold front will move east across much of Britain, with a very strong WSW'erly flow following, especially into western parts. Although instability along the cold front is meagre, intense forcing and very strong shear along it suggests a tornado risk with this feature, as well as gusts of 60-70mph, locally higher along exposed coasts.

Following this cold front, a very tight pressure gradient will move in, especially for Wales and NW England. Very strong gusts of 80-90mph, and perhaps 100mph will affect parts of Wales, and NW England. Although these may occur independent of convection (and the risk is already covered by UKMO warnings), convection may enhance gusts, and thus this forecast includes this risk. The flow may be too intense for a tornado risk, but it is not out of the question.

Forecaster: RPK.

What does that mean re the weather type?

That's where the most squally weather looks to be, sharp thundery downpours with hail and very gusty winds, possibly the odd tornado or funnel cloud could be found.

This looks potentially much worse than Jude so why are the media and the goverment practically ignoring it in comparison?

Plenty of report of damage in south west Ireland, and reports of a tornado in Roscommon.

Meteo Group:

Potential for a sting jet to form later. This is where a front fractures and strong winds aloft sweep down to the Earth's surface #ukstorm 37mins
