Just possible that a very cold mid Feb cold spell could sink my prediction (he hopes), if the current pattern persists though with a Russian high I think winds from a southerly quarter will dominate and its perfectly possible to get a few really 'warm' days later on in the month (13 or 14Cs).

On balance therefore I think the first half of Feb will come in well above 5c but the second half nearer 7C with an early spring this year.

Overall therefore I'm going to settle on 6.5

Edit: up from my guess of 6.1 from looking at the models tonight. It's looking hot hot hot :-(

well taking the current model outputs and ian f's post regarding the ecmf 32day output and also the mets 16-30day forecast sadly none of which is pointing to a cold feb. Taking all that into acount i'm going for 5.5c. I think feb will make the headlines for how wet and not how cold just like the winter so far. I do hope i'm wrong with my temp and we get a feb to remembor for cold and snow.

Coldest month of the winter - not too difficult to achieve I hear many say. I'll go for a slightly above average 4.7 degrees. No sign yet of a break from the atlantic, but also no sign of a significantly mild month.

There is a possibility of generally cold conditions setting in during the second half which will peg the CET back somewhat.

It looks another fairly wet month, but probably not on the scale of Dec and Jan. Feb is often a much drier month than Dec and Jan and on some occasions can end up one of the driest if not the driest month of the year especially in the north.

When will we see a notably cold February again? Its about time, having endured in the last 4 years one of the coldest Decembers and Marches of the last 100 years and seeing a notably cold January in 2010 below 2 degrees.
