Well I have had a nice lie in this morning and have woken to sunshine.......

Morning Marie and all - same here, bright and breezy and still in bed but there is something heading this way by the looks of the sky !

Morning all. Hope everyone is OK

:)

Morning MAF - all good here, just struggling with what day of the week it is and what to have for brunch ;-)

Unless things have changed this morning in the models I have a feeling that we may have to wait a very long time to have the first match in the Snow Depth Cup, hopefully this is not going to be the first winter in a good few years where we don't see any snow only rain and windPosted Image

Hopefully your right Chris .... it can wait until we get back from our holibobs now and that way we won't miss anything or have delays flying out of the country !!

Just checking a couple of other threads (SW regional as it's what's heading our way) and that squall line heading towards us seems to be full of hail. There are some convective elements to today's weather and hail features for some in our region I should think (amongst many other phenomena):

This feature over Sussex tomorrow morning grabbed my attention earlier:

Morning all

Woke up to beautiful sunshine until the last 5min, the wind has picked up, very dark and now torrential rain out of nowhere... looks like night again!

Edit to add hail now...

Okay that stuff in the channel is really gaining strength! Im guessing the sun is helping very slightly fuel these as well.. Although not strong this time of year.. the warmth is helping with the differences in temperature from the surface up..

Its pretty wild here at the minute (St Neots) - I know not quite what the coast is / has / will experience, but its almost night time again.

Very weird.

Huge amount of seagull type birds amassing and riding the thermals outside. It's just the amount of them that's so weird!

From the met:

Further heavy showers and thunderstorms with hail and squally winds will affect southern parts of England and southern and western parts of Wales during the rest of today. The public should be aware of the risk of disruption, particularly to travel, with the possibility of localised surface water flooding, hail temporarily covering roads and also damage from lightning strikes.

A deeply unstable airmass covers the UK with bands of heavy showers and thunderstorms moving northeastwards, particularly affecting southern parts of England and southern and western Wales. The showers could produce 5-10 mm of rain within an hour.
