this is insane now, as the wind blows i feel a draft, i think that the wind is actually blowing around the window frame if that's possible, well something is causing the draft, and its making a swishing noise.

Lights have had a little wobble here too, read about the south croydon problem on twitter. I slept through the 87 storm so would like to see this one out,, however the wine and sloe gin might get the better of mePosted Image

The rain does exaggerate the strength of the wind as it smashes against things. This is a good 30-50% weaker in terms of wind gusts than 1987 and 20-30% on 2000. So yes it is very strong but you have to bear in mind in 2000 and 1987 driving rain didn't add to the effect.

I drove back from Charlwood from our choir party back to Reigate an hour or so ago and that was some if the most difficult driving conditions - a hovercraft would have been more useful!

The River Mole was coming across the road at Sidlow Bridge on the A217! :(

Whilst the wind gusts are not really out of the ordinary for many of us in our region, it's the sheer duration of this storm that is noteworthy. Apart from a brief lull here earlier this evening the wind has been howling here for over 12 hours now.

Must be getting 65mph+ gusts here now, has picked up so suddenly, definitely the worst storm I've witnessed since the new millennium

This is close as we can get to the burns day storm I think. Truly amazed by this one and winds are def still increasing here. I have a feeling there is an awful lot left in this yet.
