Here's the culprit at Drumochter (credit twitter)

Once this passes over, with probable power outages, I suspect peeps will change the "r" to a "c".Posted Image

That's it trying really really hard here to snow. It's not, mind - but it's making a seriously huge effort to! Sky went dark and that coppery-apricot colour, raising my hopes, then the rains started in, but there are flakes in amongst the rain in Suburban South Embra! What you'd call "a brief flurry" though, as now it's sunny...

Dirk? Not exactly festive, is it? You think they could have mustered up Rudolf? Or Donner and Blitzen? Must be that whacky German humour... ;-)>

Steady PG!

Was up at 4am and had a look and knew then it was slightly worse. Didn't want to get up for the 6z as I kinda knew the story. Well, this isn't going away is it? Unbelievable!

Going to have to start cooking the bird and the meat today and get it sliced and frozen tonight. No problem with the meal really if I get that done now as I have a gas topped range. I think we can live without roast potatoes.

This is getting scary now. Personally, I have never seen anything like it. Sods law I suppose, when we were all wishing that the stagnant weather would go away. What would I give to have it back now! Stay safe all.Posted Image

A squally 'wintry mix' for the past 10 mins here has left the slightest amount of slush of the grass. Looks like 'lively' few days coming up beginning with Dastardly Dirk Claus, Santa's evil twin.Stay safe, everyone.

i keep hearing that ,i showed somebody the charts ,who didn't have a clue and even they went that looks bad ,this storm is frightening me we face south on a incline facing stornoway ,i'm working ,i'm going to throw ropes over the roof of the house as well they did this years ago ,on the old croft houses ,the poly went in the first storm so that's not a worry ,i'm not bothered about christmas dinner as long as everything stays in one piece on the house and the stock is ok ,i hate it when i'm at work and if i can travel there and back is questionable

Yep, and some folks saying it won't be that bad and OTT etc.Posted Image

Can someone explain why people on the storm discussion forum are saying this wont be bad??

It's looking very worrying and severe to me!

I think they must be trying a bit of reverse psychology!

Milkmaid, it's always best to be prepared. And I certainly wouldn't like to be in Donegal on Tuesday morning. But I'm in the 'not that bad' camp at the moment, looking at Meteociel's 06Z GFS Europe run. Last wednesday/thurdays blast worried me more, and unless those isobars tighten up on the charts before tuesday, I'm already more concerned about the possibility of next Friday/Saturday being nasty.

I think they must be trying a bit of reverse psychology!

They must be living in a parallel universe where nothing ever happens. Delusional? There's potential for 100mph gusts around the coasts of different parts of the UK so why anyone would want to downplay this is a mystery.

Seems the snaw we got last night caused problems in Jedburgh.

Yellow warning of snow.

An area of sleet and snow will move up from the south during Monday afternoon, particularly affecting some of the higher routes over Central and northwest Scotland. This snow will be accompanied by strong winds with the snow blowing around in the wind with some drifting possible over the higher routes.

The public should be aware of the potential for some disruption to travel.

A deep area of low pressure developing over the eastern Atlantic will spread its fronts up across the UK on Monday bringing a period of snow to much of central and northern Scotland. 2 to 5cm is possible above around 300 metres, with larger amounts at greater altitudes - this drifting in the strong winds.

Simply because it won't affect them in the way it will affect us.

I just went on the met office and the 'wind' warning for the UK has gone??

Yep, it's gone. I hope that's because they are upgrading the warning.....
