Don't know what whistled through Newbury but it was a fair old gust ... And that squall line is yet to come ... And lights are now flickering ... :(

32.2mm fallen so far, and the rain is still pouring! The wind is pretty bad too, gusting up in the 50's at the moment. I wonder whether that squall line will reach here? It's hard to imagine the weather actually getting worse!

What were the roads like coming back mate?

We came back about 6 ish when the window of dryer weather came through. So it was clear the rain tonight though would of changed the route somewhat. I have to go to work in the morning for a bit so i am intrigued what the state of it will be. the rain now is so intense.

122 mm and climbing

roaring outside again now have no idea what the wind speed it but it's a lot worse than this afternoon.

I totally agree, wild out there now. Something has just gone clonk, no idea what!

Round 2 well and truly underway here.

As expected, squall features embedded within the mass of PPN, giving localised torrential downpours and rise to potential tornadic activity.

Astounding totals on the moors, thanks for sharing those stats. Imagine if this had been snow!

Maybe in a couple of weeks. I've known a few wet & wild late Decembers that turned into snowier times in January. If the jet goes further south and there are height rises to the North you never know.

My nan always used to say a snowy period often followed a stormy one.

It sounds really wild out there right now and being exposed to the Severn Estuary makes it even more noticeable. I haven't heard the trees in the local woodland roar like this for ages!

My top gust is still 40mph but it sounds like its ramping up again if I'm totally honest. Will easily be topping 60mph inland in parts I reckon over the next few hours. The barometer now reads 976.1mb and to think it was 1012mb or thereabouts at midnight last night.

My rainfall is 29mm and counting and considering I'm sheltered and the wind is blowing over the gauge I suspect that's pretty accurate.

This time last night 125mm was predicted by Peter Gibbs so fair play to the MetO and the beeb but I suspect they could still be an inch out (150mm plus) judging by the radar. Back to watching the darts I go.
