Everything appears to have died, which is a bit of a disappointment.

Well i am now near Grantham and can't help but wonder if all the showers to the southwest may have that bit more fight in them before they move away. I'm probably just clutching at straws but thinking nocturnal cooling....

Perhaps the Sheffield shield will sneeze and blow what's left your way???

Well Supacell, the SW clouds have some nice towering tops, maybe something will develop later?....

Could you keep your shield working in your area only and not for the whole of Yorkshire pleasePosted Image

An interesting day here, no thunder unfortunately, but certainly some good downpours and gusty winds. 15.6mm has fallen today, barring any showers before midnight. It looks like there could still be more opportunities during the week ahead though. Posted Image

Everything dissipated as it headed towards Cambs/Lincs. Not surprising as we do not experience the heating of the landmass at this time of the year.

Quite impressive stuff though for mid-late October nonetheless. Looks as if the convective period has been very delayed this year! Better late than not at all I suppose!

Chesterfield would complain if it got turned off. Seems to buffer all the storms up there.

Just had some of the heaviest rain I have seen in a long time here in Aberystwyth! Good luck to those north of here!

Pit, We had some lightning over head in Hackenthorpe and plenty if rumbles of thunder plus some moderate rain from the 2 passing storms earlier. Plenty of hail too in Dinnington

Please don't make it worse will you. Hasn't even tipped the rain bucket here since early hours of this morning.

Well I know some of you guys have had nothing this year or very little and I don't mean to rub it in but; this has to be the best year for me IMBY for at least 7 years. Granted, today I wasn't in Bristol and saw 5 or 6 flashes/strikes around Reading today but it has been a good year in my area bar today. Quite impressed that storms are happening so late in the season though. I hope there is more to come. The cold can wait until December for all I care. :-)

More info on the Hayling island incident.http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2468876/Hayling-Island-tornado-Damaged-houses-brings-trees-Portsmouth.htmlLooks like it's a case of waterspout making landfall with subsequent damage as reported above. Conditions it seems were rather favourable here early this morning.

Mail hyping on about it sounding like a freight train! Did anyone here witness it? Wonder if it matched the Sleaford 2012 one

Yep just strong winds in a squall

Really ??  You might want to check Tony Gilberts excellent site investigation report over on UKww. I know who's opinion I would trust.

With the damage being so low down at ground level tells me that it can't be.

By the way, a strong wind is 25-31mph. They look like they have had winds of at least 70mph whether from a tornado or even a squall.

I reckon it is that. If it was a tornado, no doubt there would be footage and a defined funnel. The Birmingham and Sleaford ones are the only ones that I've properly seen clearly defined as tornadoes, therefore are legitimate. I think this was probably from a gust front or microburst, false alarm for a proper tornado.

Oops, did I forget to mention the Oxford one too!

Well for my location yesterday and this morning had the best potential with some v.heavy rain and some thunder. Next interest comes on Tuesday as the GFS suggests high CAPE values and negative LI values, so hopefully when the initial cold front moves away the trough will act as a trigger.
