Looks to have calmed down for now as that squall or similar has passed through. Plenty of showers behind so perhaps further thundery chances later in the night. :)

Plenty of showers coming in from the SW approaches now setting up a very convective day ahead. Hail, thunder and strong wind gusts are all likely.

Looking further ahead, some heavy rain overnight tonight for all of us with further bands of rainfall over the next 5 days or so. We are well & truly in a disturbed period of weather now.

SOMERSET & BANES 5 DAY FORECAST

5 DAY FORECAST ISSUED AT 09:00HRS ON SUNDAY OCTOBER 20TH 2013

Sunday will be a bright day with sunshine and showers, again some of which could be heavy and squally with thunder in places. Some drier spells will occur as well and it will again be a mild day for this time in October with temperatures close to 16C in the afternoon. It will be a rather breezy day across the area with a stiff SW breeze.

Tonight will see most of the showers die out as well as the wind with a largely dry night with broken cloud and clear spells. Towards morning cloud will of thickened from the South and with an increasing SE wind by then heavy rain will of arrived for most by dawn. Minimum Temperatures tonight will still be a mild 10C at lowest.

Monday will probably become cloudy and windy through the day with rain spreading NE across the area in maintained mild conditions. Some of the rain will be heavy and prolonged, especially in the morning with the East of the county probably becoming a little brighter and drier in the afternoon. A very windy day is expected everywhere.

On Tuesday and Wednesday it will be very windy and showery with some heavy showers driven on by a near gale SW wind and some longer spells of heavy rain possible too at times. A few brighter intervals are possible in between especially on Wednesday.

On Thursday after a bright start cloud will thicken through the morning with SE winds increasing and rain spreading NE through the day, some heavy. It will remain mild.

Police officers are on Hayling Island this morning following reports of disruption due to what is believed to have been a mini tornado overnight.

Reports of fallen trees, telegraph poles etc have been made to our control room. We are working with our partner agencies – Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service and local councils - to assist where necessary today.

If you need to report anything to us, please call 101.

Thanks for posting, I was listening to that on Wave 105 radio, i can't copy and paste links  on a TV webkit unfortunately. :(

The winds are something to be reckoned with on their own today, gusting to 30mph quite regularly here. Currently 16.5C and post-15177-0-13911900-1371296886.gif

All eyes to the South West, Devon/Dorset/Devon/Hampshire/West Sussex in the firing line at first. There's a finger of showers developing ahead of the trough, they look to be coming this way, there's some good cloud formationshere already. Don't be surprised to get some very strong winds, possibly even a waterspout/tornado. Posted Image

Model guidance suggests late afternoon/early evening Karl. I'd probably keep an eye on the radar for the next few hours, see what pans out. :)

One flash, one rumble here a couple of minutes ago.  Raining heavily, suddenly gone all grey.

Well its been quite windy here so far with a top gust of 28mph and sunshine and cloud.

I did see one distant flash last night towards the southwest but that was it. Currently now this afternoon I am keeping an eye on a load of dark clouds coming this way and I am not shure if I heard a rumble of thunder a few minutes ago.

Netweather ATD suggests a few strikes in that cluster to the south west of me, around Tiverton-Cullompton-Honiton area.

Can hear distant booms of thunder here now.

There was just a very intense downpour with gale force winds. A massive limb fell down off one of our red maple trees. I was coming back from Sidmouth at the time and saw 3 flashes of lightning. It was incredible, here. Posted Image
