Mum finally home, A23/A27 a nightmare apparently with ice and snow on Dyke road and woodland drive very bad, still snowing here as well, thinking of a walk to the South Downs on friday to find the deeper stuff.

You can't beat a bit of hight for snow. One of the reasons I moved to the my location was I wanted to be part of the action if it snowed. I would like however, to recommend Tatsfield on the Surrey Kent border. It's mostly above 700ft. I have seen 1963 (several feet) style snowdrifts there in the 80's.

It's starting to get a bit crunchy here - starting to freeze. Wet snow has stuck to everything. Could be good for some photos tomorrow....

RB

Amen to that! I lived in Tatsfield for years, it never failed to amaze me how much more snow we got than everyone else.

Very strange, i work in Hailsham and left there to go home to Polegate halfway between Hailsham and Eastbourne at 5, Snow then in Hailsham. Heavy Sleet though here in Polegate giving a slushy covering. The rest of the snow had pretty much melted during the day though, sooo close to borderline.

About an inch, depends where in Eastbourne you are, guess it's about 10 - 15 miles to the coast from here

I am in Stone Cross and no snow here, it is just over 3 miles up the Ersham Road to the BP garage for me.

Here in Northants we have greens on the radar overhead, but absolutely nothing, not even snizzle is falling from the sky. And the moon is clear under a haze. So the radar is very misleading.

Temp 3.1c

Dewp -3.2c

Wind quite breezy from the East at 11mph gusting to 16mph

Pants for night-time cold this little cold spell.

Btw how are our Surrey and Hampshire Cousins coping, Army been called out yet ? I see the cleaners never put out the Red Alert for the 40cm,perhaps they are not computer savvy!

Maybe the snow cut out the power at Met Office HQ.

It's quite something isn't it! I wasn't expecting this at all smile.png I hope for those further along the coast such as Eastbourne etc that it turns to snow

Council will not be happy with the MetO's forecast, hence no gritters doh.gif

It's really strange where the snow/rain line is round here would have thought Stone Cross had a bit of height to help it turn to snow. Yet down at the coast over in Brighton it's snow. Crazy weather.

GFS goes for a decent snow to rain event in the early hours of Sat as we wave goodbye to this cold spell.

Yes I remember having to go up there for work in Winter 2004- huge drifts almost blocking the lanes when down in Oxted there wasn't even a dusting!

I am amazed at this. We have been watching this unfold for hours now, and not a peep from the MetO and all the Beeb have done is move their ever vaguer graphics slightly East!!
