We are starting to see some truly tantalising charts now but there will be lots of twists and turns to come no doubt, will it be a giant slalom, a super-Easterly or all go downhill ?

One thing for sure there will be plenty of up’s and downs over the next few runs and the end result may not be what we are hoping for but it’s the taking part that counts and there is always the Après-ski party to look forward to. drinks.gif

Coast our ‘blue leader’, myself and the rest of the purple forum host team will be here to guide you on the slippery slopes as best we can.

Before we set off on the piste: please ensure that your location is in your profile, (this is especially useful when reporting snow) you can do this by clicking on your profile, then clicking "edit profile". Add your location and save.

There are far more qualified posters on this thread than me, however my take is that it's far too early to give a proper answer. The models are flip flopping between a very decent easterly with full on snow potential through to a stubborn high pressure that would bring cooler but dryer weather! I would give 50% chance of a decent cold spell and a 10% chance of a 2010 repeat (and a 1% chance of 1987 re-run!!!!)

nogapsnh-0-144.png?05-23

nice chart as well from no gaps

the question re 2010 is as ice states above

so many variables at present and because after 180 gfs goes into default mode

it makes it hard to be specific

if ecm has got the right set up

ECM1-192.GIF?05-0

ECM1-216.GIF?05-0

ECM1-240.GIF?05-0

that block to our east is huge and keeps moving in a south west direction

if it does this as shown and the atlantic weakens we could be in for a fairly long cold spell

we need more runs to be certain but anything could happen

Morning all, foggy here too this morning.

Some lovely charts, namely from the ECM for next weekend, we could finally see our first decent wintry spell next weekend. GFS is not as good but would still deliver cold and some snow. Looking forward to the output over the next couple of days!

Hello people

Foggy start here in colchester today.

Was surprised at how chilly it felt last night, hubby and dog came back from walk with freezy ears. The temps and wind chill in the 7's?

Anyway can any of you kind people remeber at what time frame did we lose the easterly last time round ,from showing on the models .I cannot remember how far it came in before dissapearing?i dont think it was that near maybe it got to about 114 before dissapearing?

I am just interested as to when a reliable time frame for this up coming spell?

cheers sam x

I think you're right, I recall it being about 4/5 days before the event when it all went the shape of the pear. I think the Tuesday night runs are the point where I'll start to get really interested (if it's still showing cold of course).....too much can go wrong between now and then!!! But there is an awful lot of potential though!

An increasingly cold easterly flow across UK into next weekend...looking good for us in the south east

Which brings some Winter-like temps for us at last!

192_31.gif

Now all we need is some white precipitation coming down from the North/North East......

I go by this technical data:

Lots of snow in new York _4 weeks later with us

3 frosts then snow

Simples!

I don't want to raise expectations, but check this site for a weeks time:

They say:

Too far away to be accurate, but an encouraging trend and one to keep an eye on.

With almost permanent greyness here some blue sky's and crisp cold days seem like fantasy land...however I am very hopeful . 1947 did not really kick in until late January!!!

However 1947 may be more than we could handle!

I'm trying to think back to last month I think it was on the Wednesday that "The ECM" showed great stuff for the following Wednesday then by Friday the hope had gone. I remember because I read about the disappointment on twitter whilst I was at Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park oh the irony.

Dank and murky here in Biggin....boring lazy.gif . I so long for crisp and sunny (not even snow), just something that makes you feel alive. Have a good day all, off to put the roast on good.gif

Was it me or did it look like he was trying to contain his excitement at the end when talking about the possibility of colder weather?

Think there are a lot of professional forecasters sitting on their hands at the moment viewing the potential but not yet allowed to get too excited about it :-)

Made me smile when he said and then once the cloud clears and the sunshine comes out it will feel colder.

It's true in this particular scenario but just sounds odd ;-)
