Showers moved in from the west yesterday evening and turned to sleet by 2200. There were further showers early this morning with wet snow around 0430, these giving a thin and patchy cover for a while, traces of which were still visible at 0900.

After this last batch of showers the cloud cleared and the morning has started dry with sunny spells and a cool SW wind.

Sunday 30th December 2012:

Rainfall update: Total for the years so far has just reached 994.8mm, by far the wettest year on local record going back to 1991. The previous wettest year was 2000, which with an annual total of 835mm.

Variable cloud overnight and clear spells, turning quite windy again with westerly gusts to 27 mph. Low 3.0c, no ground frost as the wind prevented the grass thermometer falling any lower than 0.5c. At observation, mostly clear, dry.

Maximum temperature to 18:00 GMT yesterday: 10.1°C

Minimum temperature overnight: 3.0°C

The early evening saw a clearance arrive from the SW with the odd light shower following.

A dry morning with sunny periods. Cloud increased during the early afternoon to bring a few light showers and these merged into longer spells of light rain by early evening. Increasingly windy during the day with a few gusts of 50 mph or more by early afternoon.
