Hey guys

As you might remember I bought a EOS 1100d earlier in the year. Having had a play over the last few months I have finally had a crack at the whole reason I bought the camera for - astrophotography!

Now don't get me wrong, this aint no masterpiece or anything like that, but you have no idea how thrilled I am with it as its my first try!

Shot in Raw mode, 4.5fp, 30sec exposer focused at infinity.

Ok so first thing is the exposure is too long, stars are starting to trail. The bright star right centre is Vega.

So any pointers?

Kain

It's better than my attempt just now, which was remarkably similar settings really.

Definitely getting slot-shaped stars at 30 seconds.

The reason I was trying is that with it being moonless the milky way was easily visible but not in the picture...

100% crop of (random) stars.

I must admit I like the pic with the clouds in, I dunno it adds like a mood to the picture, quite cool really. I wasn't really trying for the milky way msyelf just randomly trying it out. Went in my garden, pointed the camera up andf hoped for the best :p

Did used a starter guide from Sky at Night mag too :)

They are nice pictures, better than anything I've ever done (never really had a sensitive enough camera) :)

What ISO setting did you use?

Personally got a bit of a stacking fetish, and if you fancy going for the darker objects you might like to have a bit of a play with stacking.
