I don't know where people were getting "locally 32-34C looks quite possible" from.

I guess they didn't predict the increased cloud-cover. That said, neither did I!

I wasn't in the area yesterday, but one of the first stats I checked on my arrival home at lunchtime today, was the maximum temperature recorded in the UK yesterday.

From the Met Office site, it states Cavendish (which unless there is more than one place I know, is a village in Suffolk, in the Stour Valley - the Stour forms much of the county boundary between Essex and Suffolk) recorded a temperature of 32.4C.

Unless you predicted the cloud and thunderstorm interruption, at the time of best heating today, you have no right to judge anyone here who made that forecast, as without the interruption, the prediction would have been good for today imo.dry.png

To JP (and I won't blame you if it goes wrongph34r.pngwink.pnglaugh.png )

I'm thinking of taking a couple of days off work this week (Thursday and Friday) to go on a walk in Suffolk. I've just watched the Countryfile Forecast on BBC1 and the forecaster was concerned about the potential for a low pressure to spoil the Bank Holiday Weekend.

Do you think the timing of the (potential) spoiling low looks reasonable? I'm also thinking about Hurricane Gordon too. Do you reckon that could majorly change the week's forecast from now?

My hunch is that the forecast should be okay (for myself on Thursday/Friday) as I think Gordon, on its track, won't influence weather patterns too much. I'd be interested in your thoughts on the likelihood of bad (more than scattered showers) weather before Saturday tho?

Cheers

I have no right? Oh okay.

30-31 looked possible but 33-34, I can't see where that was pulled from.

Generally heatwaves / cold spells get more intense, unless the time of year is wrong, until something breaks them. You've just made a 'with hindsight' post on the 30-31C figure, I guess using the recent BBC weather bulletin, which stated that 31C was reached today in Cambridge. Yes, you've no right to criticize people's predictions, unless you posted the same before today.

On a different note i think it is hard to predict any outcome for the week ahead. As for the bank holiday weekend best wait until Wednesday earliest for a clue. The current pattern at the moment is not a friendly one for a guide to the week ahead

i would be impressed with the charts if they got this correct

Aggggghhhhhhh! No storms and a curtailed Summer - I wonder if my company would like an additional office in the Caribbean?

Yes, seems very hard to call at the moment.

I think the Clacton Air Show is on Thursday and Friday too and the weather is almost always terrible for this event. Thursday and Friday seem almost too good (although the actual weather is only looking fairly average) given my slightly superstitious mind.ph34r.png

Morning all.

Cloudy and muggy here today. Last night was horrible for sleeping. At least the cooling weather will help this.smile.png

I definitely won't be making major plans for the BH now. I guess it'll be a somewhere near home type of weekend.smile.png

Mmmmm, I hope Gordon isn't going to mess things up and spoil the bank holiday weekend - I'm going to a wedding on Saturday and then my birthday celebrations begin on Sunday so I'd really like it to be dry !

Good luck in the SE Guys.

Usually as soon as I step foot out of the country all manner of Supercells, Spanish Plumes and other wierd and wonderful Weather events unfold in the SE...........But this time it might be benign for the next 7-10 days.

Nice to have a taste of Summer these last 2 weeks, now off to 39-45c heat and Desert Storms, will post some pictures over the next week in here just to show Cg's are not a myth!

See you in September!

One things for sure, you won't be dry (alcohol induced, maybe) come the end of those celebrations. As for the weather, it will be a Bank Holiday, so whilst I suspect a wet one, the majority of showers will be probably away from this region, will they not? Too early to tell really as the wise folk in here have suggested but gut feeling rules more often than not.

Go check out those Fax Charts with Gordon on them, they are a rare sight indeed.
