Snow line continues to head south in Finland and Sweden and moves towards the Baltic states from Russia. All going to plan (considering it's not even winter yet!!!)

Possibly snowing in Stockholm right now, but if it is, it isn't sticking.. early days though, won't get above freezing in Stockholm for the next week at least if the forecasts are accurate

Big falls in Scandi; Norway, Finland and Sweden just about full! Incredible that a county the size of Russia, apart from the southern extreme's is almost completely under snow.

that's right and others will do well in the next few days, looking very healthy on the expected snow chart and expect to see some more blue positives on the snow cover anomaly chart soon. Posted Image

Whilst, not that fantastic for us just now, FI IMO is no further out than Sunday or Monday at current time.

Helsinki - settled snow at sea level.

Moscow - still under snow

Oslo Linpro? - archived image, but very recent capture.

I suspect there are others, but the build up is continuing and it won't be long until it is our turn. Plenty of surprises along the way with all the borderline events upcoming. Posted Image

looks a lot less on that movie than the longer and less reliable longer looking three to six day chart so it will be interesting to see if the snow can do a big euro push by Wednesday

Sorry to say that the advances in snow in Scandinavia and eastern Europe are not all that impressive now, this is what it should be like. It has been very mild during November throughout most of the region with temperatures widely between 2 - 4°C above average - look at some of the last 30 day plots here -

http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/global_monitoring/temperature/global_temp_accum.shtml

For example Arkhangelsk in Russia is running 4.43°C above average over the last 30 days.

In some winters, large parts of Scandinavia have been snow free well into January in exceptionally mild spells.. so it's not bad.

12cm is recording breaking for Moscow? Now, I know Moscow is inland and rather dry in winter, but come on, surely they have received far larger falls..

Nevermind, it's the biggest November snowfall for 50 years.

Nevermind, it's the biggest November snowfall for 50 years.

"The Moscow weather service said today that a third of November's typical amount of snow had fallen in the past 24 hours, creating a 4.7in (12cm) cover - and more is forecast.

Moscow's city hall said the Russian capital has not seen a bigger snowfall in November for about 50 years."

I guess they should know.

Russia was a lot snowier at this time of year when those guys paid a visit.

they obviously didn't use exacta weather for their long range forecasts.

And you might get a dusting Saturday I believe, as that front skirts south towards south-east England. Posted Image

Big 'dollop' across the Alps and Scandi's snow has moved into the Baltic states. Snow also pushes south further into Kazakhstan; keep it coming our way....it's not even winter yet!!!

Oh, and we finally have ice cover parity with 2007 (not that that's much to shout about!)
