He was on TWO not long ago.. but he'll be preparing for the upcoming cold spell that the models are firming up on in 5 months time.

Mind you if the NAO continues it's behaviour that it's shown this year, and the cheeky Azores doesn't show it's teeth and footing. You never know??

LOL, but please note the title was just for a little bit of fun. Even I know that it's not going to happen, knowing the Azores the party pooper the above wont ever verify. If it does I'll eat my lanyard.

I really do hope that last winter was a 'blip' in terms of cold snowy weather. A return to winters of 09 and 10 please... pretty please.....

Or maybe last winter was just a half way house back to Zonal driven winters.. hopefully not though! I'm really starting to look forward to winter now, I have to keep reminding myself how rare snow in October is though!

I'm going to employ more positive thinking than I did last year. It obviously wasn't enough... perhaps a snow dance every day from the beginning of September?

Still throwing up some cracking charts, heres hoping for a beast of a winter! I seem to remember CFS got the severe cold of December 2010 from months in advance...

Just been playing around the metoffice and CFS maps, both of which look good for a colder than average winter. No doubt will fluctuate but nice to look at none the less!

Will be updating my summary of the 4 daily cfs nine month runs at the end of August. So far it looks as if the ongoing signal for some substantial cold and wintery outbreaks during the coming winter is being maintained.

Interesting to see how many of these charts keep updating and are completely different each time! but often see some nice runs showing.

I'd either like cold snowy/frosty weather in winter, or if it has to be milder I'd prefer lots of active Atlantic lows bringing fronts, windy days, squally showers with hail, thunder, sleet etc and the kitchen sink thrown in rather than a quieter mild pattern like a ridging Azores high.. that's what may really make me a bit fed up.

In that respect last winter wasn't that interesting here, we had some cold in early Feb but not like further east and down here on low ground hardly any falling snow let alone lying snow.

Saying that December was quite active from the Atlantic though any real strong wind events missed here or didn't happen.

OK so here are the charts from the winter of 2010/11 .... I thought it might bring back some nostalgic memories. I was unable to find them for the 09/10 winter however. Enjoy.

Been watching the CFS trend cold in the last few runs, would be awesome if it came off. Just a few weeks back it was going for a mild winter overall, so it can change quite quickly.

Will be interesting viewing over the next month.

One trend i have noticed is a blocked pattern late October early November with a sign of a cold spell. This is only 2 months away so you never know.

It certainly is something to keep an eye on, i'm intrigued as to when we may have our first cold spell, would be awesome to have a cold start to winter months. (November would be great)

One thing to note though, going into last winter the CFS was predicting a cold start/winter and look what happened, I'm starting to think it has a slight bias to colder weather
