Tell me about it the icicles are hanging off the car it looks amazing - as well as the roofs etc....really never seen freezing rain like this ever really!

This sort of weather is amazing to see, but it makes me wish I lived in the tropics!

Must admit I haven't witnessed such an ice storm before, I'm happy to say that this frontal event has provided some wintry interest.

1cm of lying snow and some ice generally.

Probably see a couple more cms still.

Bring on se greenland blocking heights and pan-euro trough, and the unstable n/ne/e flow with it!

Has anyone got a pic of the freezing rain I can use to send to Liam Dutton on twitter?

This is quite spectacular , the trees are cracking in the wind with the ice that is covering them. Never witnessed freezing rain like it.

Pretty disappointing event today. Steady snow earlier on but very little lying. Not even enough for a covering just patches on the grass and path. Although freezing rain and ice pellets were a nice sight, but would really love to see a couple of cm of lying snow this evening into tomorrow morning. Currently steady sleety rain, so there is hope yet.

Turning more to snow here now. If we get a covering it will be very slippy with the solid ice underneath.

Rear wheel drive out in that!

It would be fun for the first couple of minutes.

Very sharp back edge on this stuff.

HEAVY SNOW - almost a cm of snow and ice.

I am only 2-3 miles north of you and its not heavy snow here. Just some flakes mixed in with the ice pellets. I am heading your way in an hour so will take care.

IF,I have followed the weather avidly since the great winter of 1947 when I was 9 years old,and have always lived in the North-East and can honestly say that I have never seen this sort of ice storm before,we are currently at -1c and have been for well over an hour,my advice to all is to stay indoors tonight if you can.

It's alternating between snow and ice pellets, but there's a decent covering now and the cars are struggling to get up the hill. The front is dragging its heels now, maybe we will see a few cm after all.

It sounds like Greenland heights could build later this month, so hopefully winter will go out with a bang!

Ice pellets again, probably around an hour of precipitation left. 1.5cm of ice and snow.

typically our 4wd is off the road getting the shocks done so having to use hubby's audi (which is crap because we dont all fit in it!!) anyway he has just took my mam home and apparantly the roads are quite bad, not been gritted. Is this it for us or is there still some hope?

It's just about it. It's been a bit disappointing but not a total non event. If we do get N'lies and NE'lies later this month the NE will almost certainly do well.

Teesside should have a couple more hours of snow yet.

Its been snowing here solid for 6 hours - mostly light/moderate wet stuff until the last couple of hours. It is currently heavy snow with big swirly snowflakes - will go out an measure shortly - suspect nearing on 3 inches, nothing spectacular but preety good all the same.

As I expected the local topography has done wonders today - cooling the air to ensure we have retained favourable dewpoints and also pepping up the intensity and persistance of precipitation. The radar shows the precip fizzling out shortly, but it oftens underestimates the micro climate of the lakes, and I wouldn't be surprised to see the snow falling for a couple of more hours yet.

It is very icy outside now - quickly becoming treacherous.
